Team Colorado Headed To Dayton Region For TBT
June 21, 2023 | Men's Basketball
BOULDER – Team Colorado, comprised of University of Colorado men's basketball alumni, is officially returning to the The Basketball Tournament (TBT) and will be the No. 3 seed in the Dayton Region, July 26-31, at the UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio.
Team Colorado will open TBT play against the No. 6 seed Men of Mackey, a Purdue alumni team, on Wednesday, July 26, at 1 p.m. The winner of that game will face either No. 2 Friday Beers (traditionally called Armored Athlete) and No. 7 Athletics Miami on Friday, July 28, at 4 p.m. MT.
The Dayton Regional championship game is Saturday, July 29, at 5 p.m. MT. All games will be broadcast on the ESPN Family of Networks.
In its 10th season, TBT is a 64-team tournament which has exploded in popularity over the last decade. Many of the entrants are alumni teams much like Team Colorado with one common goal – to win the tournament's $1 million prize for the championship team.
"We're extremely excited to be in the tournament again," said Team Colorado head coach Zach Ruebesam who just completed his second season as the Buffaloes' Director of Player Development. "There's a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes to get off the ground so to see us in the bracket with a matchup it, it feels a little bit more real now.
"All the hard work and planning stuff that we've done up to this point has paid off and now is kind of where the fun part happens of planning to get the guys on campus preparing for the game and trying to go out and do something together."
Team Colorado will hold a training camp in Boulder July 22-24 before leaving for Dayton on July 25.
Colorado, returns to TBT for the first time in four years. The Buffaloes had a memorable four-year run early in the tournament's history, including a spot in the championship game in 2016. A combination of the COVID-19 pandemic and scheduling conflicts prevented Team Colorado from fielding a squad the last three years.
This edition of Team Colorado will look different than years past. The early run of the team featured mostly alumni from the early to mid-2000s with long-time pros like Chris Copeland and Marcus Hall leading the way. The 2023 team features mostly former Buffaloes just a year or two removed from the college game.
