Buffs Recap European Tour

BOULDER - The Colorado volleyball team went undefeated in an action packed European tour that featured five matches against four different national teams last month. During the 10 day tour, CU was constantly on the move, visiting Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, and Italy throughout their time abroad.
"Our European tour was a success on every level," head coach Jesse Mahoney commented. "We benefited from the opportunity for the extra practice and the solid competition it provided."
Per NCAA regulations, the volleyball team is allowed to take a foreign trip every four seasons. One clear advantage to taking the trip shortly before the fall season is that incoming first years are able to participate and compete with their new teammates.
First year Lily Dwinell commented that the trip made a large impact in helping her feel more prepared for the 2023 season.
"The trip to Europe gave me experience playing with the team before our season and a chance to bond with everyone," Dwinell said. "It made even more excited and prepared to get started at CU!"
While the team's tour was full of solid competition, the squad also took plenty of time to embrace the culture of the various countries they visited.
"I think everyone enjoyed the trip both on the court and off the court! It was a perfect time for us to get to know each other better, especially for our five new freshmen and our transfer teammate," said senior outside hitter Maya Tabron. "Much of the team had never been to Europe before so getting to be around so many people experiencing a new thing was exciting and fun!"
Coach Mahoney seconded Tabron's appreciation of the different lifestyles that the team was able to encounter.
"We had fun adventures visiting new and interesting cultures, met great people and fellow athletes, and I think collectively we came away from the experience with a better appreciation of our world," Coach Mahoney said.
