Keeping Up With The Buffs: Philly Edition

PHILADELPHIA - I don't know about you, but I've been counting down the days until July. If you're on the University of Colorado Women's Lacrosse team or are big Buff fans, then you definitely know what July entails for CU Women's Lacrosse — our foreign trip to the Netherlands!!!!
My name is Taylor Smith and I'm currently a senior on CU's Division I Lacrosse team. For those wanting to follow along on our trip to Amsterdam, I'll be blogging each day about our adventures!
But, before our foreign adventures officially began, our team gathered in Philly (July 18th - 20th) to practice for a few days in preparation for our games against Germany and the Netherlands.
Before I even stepped on the field for the first practice in Philly, I felt a special kind of energy among our team — I think we all felt it. It was the kind of energy that signified excitement. Excitement for an amazing opportunity ahead with new activities to try, sights to see, a culture to absorb, and people to meet. It was the kind of positive energy that involved welcoming the new freshman to our team. And it was the kind of energy that relayed an immense amount of gratitude for being able to reunite with our graduated players for one last hurrah. To say the least, our foreign trip represents a lot more to us than just lacrosse.
Over the past few days in Philly, we jumped right into practices with skills, concepts, and live play. Although it was hot outside, it felt good being back on the field as a team. To make the most of our time in Philly, two of our teammates, Mack Moore and Maddie Shoup, graciously hosted our whole team for dinner at their houses. Being able to catch up with each other and bond with the newcomers was definitely a highlight of the days spent in Philly. Oh, and of course the delicious food generously provided by the Moores and the Shoups —— I'm still thinking about that Philly Cheesesteak…
