Former Buff Pebley Introduced as LA Sparks GM

January 11, 2024 | Women's Basketball

LOS ANGELES – Former University of Colorado forward Raegan (Scott) Pebley was hired last week and formally introduced earlier this week as the general manager of the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks.

"I am so thankful for the opportunity that Eric Holoman and Karen Bryant have extended me to serve an organization that believes in the transformational impact women's basketball can have on a community and society," Pebley said in a team statement. "The tradition and legacy of the Sparks has played a key role in the current trajectory and growth we are seeing in women's sports. I am eager to partner with our players, front office, coaching staff and community as we foster a culture where our players are resourced with all the tools they need as they courageously chase the best version of themselves and compete for WNBA championships."

Pebley helped the Buffs to a 106-24 overall record and four conference championships from 1993-97. She scored 10 points and had nine rebounds, aiding the Buffs to the inaugural Big 12 Tournament championship in 1997. In her career, Pebley earned all-conference accolades twice, including a second-team All-Big 12 selection in 1997. She remains one of 10 players to score over 1,000 career points (1,042) and collect over 700 rebounds (701).

CU made two Sweet 16 appearances during her career, including a trip to the Elite Eight during her sophomore season, as the Buffs won a school-record 30 games (30-3 overall). Colorado won 25 straight games that season and finished the year ranked No. 2 in the final AP poll.

Pebley spent 21 years coaching at the DI level, most recently at TCU. She coached Utah State, Fresno State and TCU to a 283-268 record from 2003-2023. Pebley led Fresno State to back-to-back conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances and coached the Horned Frogs to three consecutive 22+ win seasons.

Pebley was the 21st overall pick (third round) in the 1997 WNBA draft by the Utah Starzz. She moved on from the Starzz and joined the Cleveland Rockers, playing in 22 games in 1998.

The Sparks just missed out on the 2023 playoffs finishing ninth in the league with a 17-23 record.

"The integrity of who I am is to try to be a servant leader, to try to show up in spaces and recognize where the people I'm leading and serving, where their needs are," Pebley said. "Sometimes that looks different from one day to the next. This is going to look different from being a coach now to being in the front-office space. But just the opportunity to be in the WNBA, be in L.A., who are leaders in that space, was something that I just could not pass up."

Pebley will lead the Sparks front office alongside Eli Horowitz, who has been promoted to Assistant General Manager/Vice President of Scouting & Analytics; Ilene Hauser, Vice President of Basketball Operations/Player Relations, and two-time WNBA Coach of the Year Curt Miller.

The Sparks hold the No. 2 & 12 overall picks in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
