Sherrod Earns Player of the Week Honors

January 02, 2024 | Women's Basketball

Award comes after career-high 34 point performance on Saturday

BOULDER – Colorado point guard Jaylyn Sherrod was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week by the conference office on Tuesday.

It is the third Pac-12 Player of the Week award of her career as well as the third honor in the last two days. Sherrod was awarded National Player of the Week honors by both ESPN and the Associated Press on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

Sherrod was a driving force in CU's Pac-12-opening win over No. 12 Utah on Saturday. She led the Buffs with a career-high 34 points and finished the day with six steals, four assists, four rebounds and just one turnover in 32 minutes. 13 of her points came in a commanding 23-4 run for the Buffs in the fourth quarter. She was a perfect 5-for-5 shooting in the final period, helping erase an eight-point Utah lead.

Sherrod's scoring numbers tied for the ninth-best total in program history. Her 34 points were the most by a Buff since Brittany Spears poured in 26 against USC on March 27, 2011. She moved up to 23rd on CU's all-time scoring list, now with 1,224 career points.

It is the second Pac-12 honor for the Buffs this season. Aaronette Vonleh earned the first weekly honor of the season following the Buffs' win over LSU. It is the ninth weekly honor for the Buffs since joining the Pac-12.

Colorado jumped back up to No. 5 in the AP rankings on Monday as it prepares for its first Pac-12 road trip of the season. CU will open at Arizona on Friday (6 p.m. MT) and head to Arizona State on Sunday (noon MT).
