Sherrod Announced as a Top 10 Lieberman Award Candidate

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Colorado point guard Jaylyn Sherrod is among 10 candidates for the 2024 Nancy Lieberman Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced on Monday.
The field of candidates was cut down from 20 listed in the preseason watch list announced in October.
Now in its 25th year, the award recognizes the top point guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. To be considered for this prestigious award, candidates must exhibit the floor leadership, playmaking, and ball-handling skills of Class of 1996 Hall-of-Famer Nancy Lieberman.
Sherrod, a Birmingham, Ala., native, is averaging 14.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.3 steals per game this season. She is currently third on the Pac-12 in total steals (42) and fourth in steals per game. Sherrod is also fifth in the conference in assists (92) and sixth in assists per game. She is one of 12 DI players averaging 10.0 points, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals this season.
Now in her fifth year, Sherrod has established herself as a top point guard in the country. She's accumulated 1,302 points and ranks third in program history in assists (565) and sixth in steals (243). Sherrod ranks seventh among active DI players in career assists and is 12 in steals.
Sherrod put in a career-high 34 points in Colorado's 76-65 win over then No. 12 Utah and had her second career double-double against UT Arlington with 11 points and a career-high 13 assists.
In March, five finalists will be presented to Lieberman and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The Selection Committee for the Nancy Lieberman Award is composed of top women's college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers.
The winner of the 2024 Lieberman Award will be presented on a to-be-determined date, along with the four other members of the Women's Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award (Shooting Guard), Cheryl Miller Award (Small Forward), Katrina McClain Award (Power Forward), and the Lisa Leslie Award (Center), in addition to the Men's Starting Five.
Previous winners of the Nancy Lieberman Award include Caitlin Clark, Iowa (2022-23), Paige Bueckers, UConn (2021), Sabrina Ionescu, Oregon (2018-20), Skylar Diggins, Notre Dame (2012-13), Diana Taurasi, Connecticut (2003-04) and Sue Bird, Connecticut (2000-02).
