Sherrod Makes Late Season Wooden Award Watch List

One of 20 players on the latest list of nominees

BOULDER – Colorado point guard Jaylyn Sherrod was one of 20 players named to the John R. Wooden Award® presented by Principal® Late Season Top 20 Watch List as announced on ESPN2 on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts based on their performances during the 2023-24 season thus far, the list comprises of 20 student-athletes who are front-runners for the sport's most prestigious honor.
 
Sherrod was one of five players from the Pac-12, the most by any conference, included on the list.
 
She is averaging 13.9 points, 4.9 assists and 2.3 steals this season. Sherrod has scored in double figures in 14 games this season and has handed out five or more assists eight times. She became the fourth Buff in program history to have over 1,000 career points (1,325) and 500 career assists (570).
 
The Birmingham, Ala., native, is sixth in the Pac-12 in both assists per game and total assists (97). She has helped the Buffs to four ranked wins this season, including three top-10 wins for the first time in program history. Sherrod is averaging 19.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists in seven games against ranked opponents this season. She's shooting 46.0% from the field in 31.4 minutes in the seven contests.
 
Sherrod is averaging 13.1 points and 5.2 assists in CU's 17 wins this season. She scored a career-high 34 points on a career-best 13 made baskets to go with six steals, four rebounds, four assists and just one turnover in Colorado's win over then-No. 12 Utah. Following the win, she earned Player of the Week honors from ESPN, the Associated Press, the US Basketball Writers Association and was the Pac-12 Player of the Week.
 
Sherrod also handed out a career-high 13 assists in CU's 95-74 win over UT Arlington.
 
The players on the list are considered strong candidates for the 2024 John R. Wooden Award Women's Player of the Year presented by Principal. Players not chosen to the preseason or midseason  list are still eligible for the Wooden Award™ National Ballot. The National Ballot consists of 15 top players who have proven to their universities that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the Wooden Award. Voters will rank in order 10 of those 15 players when voting opens prior to the NCAA Tournament and will allow voters to take into consideration performance during early-round games. The Wooden Award All-American Team™ will be announced the week of the "Elite Eight" round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the 2024 John R. Wooden Award will be presented by Principal following the NCAA Tournament in April.
