February 15, 2024 | Men's Basketball
BOULDER – Tickets for the 2024 Maui Jim Maui Invitational will go on-sale to the public on Friday, Feb. 23, at mauiinvitational.com.
Buff Club and Alumni C Club members will have access to an exclusive presale beginning Thursday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m.
The 41st edition of the prestigious tournament will be played Nov. 25-27, 2024 at the historic Lahaina Civic Center in Maui, Hawai'i.
Colorado will join Auburn, Dayton, Iowa State, Memphis, Michigan State, North Carolina and 2023 NCAA champion UConn in its second trip to the Maui Jim Maui Invitational. The Buffaloes played in the 2009 event with a 1-2 record. Colorado had narrow losses to Gonzaga (76-72) and Arizona (91-87, in overtime) before a 73-58 win over Chaminade.
Colorado has a long-history with Iowa State as Big 7/8/12 Conference rivals from 1947-2011. ISU has a 78-70 all-time lead in the series. The last meeting between the two teams was a 68-62 Cyclones win on Nov. 13, 2015, in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Buffaloes have had recent success against Auburn and Dayton. Colorado has won all three meetings with the Tigers. The Buffaloes have a 4-1 lead over Dayton, including a memorable 78-76 overtime buzzer-beating win over the Flyers in Chicago on Dec. 21, 2019.
Colorado's last games against North Carolina (1997), Michigan State (2003) and UConn (2016) all came in the NCAA Tournament. Memphis is the only team in the field the Buffaloes have never faced.
Teams that have participated in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational throughout the event's history own 72 of the 83 NCAA Championships, and seven of those schools have gone on to win the National Championship after competing in Maui earlier in the season.
The 2024 teams bolster a total of 218 NCAA Tournament appearances, 45 Final Four berths (including 2023 National Champion UConn) and 13 NCAA Tournament titles. Half of the teams competing rank within the top-40 of the winningest programs of all-time in men's college basketball.
UConn has won the NCAA Championship five times in the last 25 years, and also has won the Maui Title twice in that span. This year's National Championship game in Houston was a prime example of 'Maui Magic,' as San Diego State finished fourth in the 2022 Maui Jim Maui Invitational.
All eight teams have been to the Maui Jim Maui Invitational before at least once, with North Carolina holding the most previous trips at eight. Memphis will be making its sixth trip, first since 2011, while Dayton, Michigan State and UConn will return for their fifth appearances.
Iowa State heads to the island for the third time (first since 2018). Auburn (2018) is headed back for its second program appearance.
Additionally, half of the teams have previously won the Maui Jim Maui Invitational: North Carolina has won four times, UConn twice and Michigan State and Dayton each hold one coveted title apiece.
