
Buffs Fall to No. 10 California On the Road

BERKELEY, Calif. – The Colorado Buffaloes tennis team fell to No. 10 California 6-1 Friday at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The lone win of the day came from junior Mila Stanojevic.
After extending its win streak to 11 matches against Oregon in the Pac-12 opener, Colorado (12-4, 1-3) dropped its third straight match to California (9-3, 3-0).
For the first time in Pac-12 play the Buffs were unable to capture the doubles point after the Golden Bears took two quick doubles wins to go ahead early.
As the action moved to singles the Golden Bears continued to control the match winning three straight matches to clinch the victory.
The remaining matches finished, allowing Stanojevic to get the only win of the day at No. 3 singles.
"Tough day for our Buffs today," head coach Anthony Pham said. "We gave ourselves a chance in doubles but wasn't quite able to push through. Â We will learn from this and prepare for another opportunity tomorrow against an excellent Stanford team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Buffs return to the court tomorrow to take on No. 4 Stanford at 1 p.m. MT for the second time this season. The first time the Cardinal defeated the Buffs 4-1 at the ITA Kickoff on January 26.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- California took the first win of the day at No. 2 singles with a 6-3 win by Jessica Alsola/Valentina Ivanov over Stanojevic and Elys Ventura.
- Soon after the Katja Wiersholmand Berta Passola Folch clinched the doubles point for the Golden Bears with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles over Ema Bubalo and Anya Nelson.
- At No. 1 doubles Aya El Sayed and Pia Rebec had the No. 23 ranked doubles duo Mao Mushika and Hannah Viller Moeller on the ropes when the match was left unfinished after the doubles point was clinched leaving at a score of 5-4 in favor of the Golden Bears.
- Lan Mi extended the lead for Cal with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Rebec at No. 5 singles.
- Cal added another point with a win from No. 38 Viller Moeller at No. 2 singles over Ventura 6-2, 6-2.
- The Golden Bears had another ranked player at No. 1 singles No. 57 Ivanov, and she clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win over El Sayed.
- The Buffs got their only win of the afternoon from Stanojevic at No. 3 singles. She defeated her first ranked opponent of the season in singles No. 54 Alsola 6-2, 4-6, 1-0(4).
- No. 53 Wiersholm got the win at No. 4 singles over Alexandra Abyasova 6-3, 6-3.
- In the last match of the day Tiziana-Marie Schomburg defeated Carri Hayes 6-3, 7-6(2) at No. 6 singles.
