CU Athletics Partners With New 5430 Alliance NIL Collective

March 26, 2024 | General

BOULDER--A merger between two local collectives will give University of Colorado Athletics a powerful new partner in Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) as the 5430 Alliance was officially launched on Tuesday, March 26. The new alliance combines the Buffs4Life NIL collective, which benefited student-athletes in all sports, and the 5430 Foundation, which specifically focused on football student-athletes, into a unified, streamlined NIL collective that will support 350 Colorado student-athletes across all 11 sport programs.

The new 5430 Alliance will be vital in helping CU Athletics attract and retain student-athletes amidst the rapidly changing world of NIL. The alliance will provide prospective donors the opportunity to make contributions through memberships that can fit any budget, as well as a tax-deductible charitable option that was started by Buffs4Life. The new 5430 Alliance will also play a significant role in hosting various events surrounding the Black and Gold Weekend Spring Football Game. Buffs supporters can explore all of these options at 5430Alliance.com and stay up-to-date with all things 5430 Alliance by following @5430alliance on Instagram, Twitter/X, and Facebook.

After NIL collectives were started at CU in October, 2022, the Buffs4Life NIL collective quickly established itself a vital resource for student-athletes, providing nearly $4.3 million dollars in various NIL opportunities to more than 200 student-athletes across various sports. The Buffs4Life NIL Collective operated as an arm of the Buffs4Life Foundation, which for 20 years has provided financial and community support to fellow alumni athletes during times of need and will continue to be the primary charitable beneficiary of the new 5430 Alliance.

That charitable fundraising will continue to include two of Buffs4Life Foundation's signature events, the Buffs4Life Golf Tournament and the on-campus Kyle Macintosh Memorial 5K Fun Run. The Buffs4Life Foundation is now led by president Hannibal Navies, a star CU football linebacker from 1995-98 and a nine-year NFL veteran, who recently stepped in for longtime president, and former Buffs lineback and Ralphie Runner Sean Tufts..

Separate from collectives, CU Athletics will continue to provide numerous NIL opportunities for student-athletes, including the Buffs NIL Exchange, where businesses can work directly with CU student-athletes to facilitate NIL deals tailored for them, as well as player merchandise opportunities through the Colorado NIL Store and the Fanatics Player Merchandise at shop.cubuffs.com.  Fans can also support CU sport programs and departmental initiatives by giving to the Buff Club.

CU also offers the Buffs with a Brand educational workshop series built on the pillars of entrepreneurship, brand-building and financial literacy. Student-athletes engage in hands-on activities, grow their professional networks and build skills to successfully capitalize on NIL opportunities.

So far this school year, Buffs with a Brand has welcomed to campus the Denver Nuggets rookies, Instagram, Meta (formerly Facebook), TikTok and SnapChat - creating exclusive programming for CU student-athletes to learn from real-world experts and explore all sides of NIL

The CU Athletic Department has three full-time staff members dedicated to supporting and empowering student-athletes through all phases of NIL. Our multifaceted NIL program provides education, resources and opportunities to make sure CU student-athletes are able to reach their full NIL potential while on campus.
