Buffs' Indoor Season Comes to a Close in Boston

March 08, 2024 | Track and Field

BOSTON, Mass. – The indoor track and field season concluded for the Colorado Buffaloes at The Track at New Balance in Boston, Massachusetts here on Friday as the Buffs had three women compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Avery McMullen began the day finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles, the first event of the pentathlon, with a time of 8.24. She then went on to record 10th-place finishes in the high jump and shot put before getting back on track with a fifth-place finish in the long jump. To finish out the pentathlon, McMullen placed sixth in the 800-meters.

McMullen's final score in the pentathlon rounded out to a new personal best of 4259 which was an eighth-place score in Boston. Her performance earned her All-American First Team honors in the pentathlon for the first time in her career as she concluded a historic season for the Buffs.

Next up for Colorado was Abbey Glynn in the 400-meter race. She had just set her personal record in the event a few weeks back at the Jarvis Scott Open in Lubbock, Texas with a time of 51.77. In her NCAA Track and Field Championships debut here Friday, she finished in 52.57 for a ninth-place finish, just missing out on qualifying for the finals race on Saturday. Glynn's ninth-place finish in the 400 makes her an All-American Second Team athlete.

Ella Baran was the last Buff to compete here in Boston, taking part in the 5,000-meter. She set her personal best in the 5,000 at Colorado's final meet of the indoor season, the Ken Shannon Last Chance, which qualified her for the NCAA Championships. At the NCAA Indoor Championships last year, Baran placed 15th in the 5,000, however, she saw improvement this year, finishing 12th in 15:38.72 to earn All-American Second Team honors.

The three women represented the Black and Gold well here on the biggest stage in Boston and will look to continue their great success this outdoor season in the weeks ahead. The Buffs' first meet of the outdoor season, the Jerry Quiller Classic, will take place at home in Boulder on March 15-16.
