Colorado Men Wrap Up First Round of Regionals

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Colorado men's track and field teams took part in four events on day one of the NCAA West Regionals here at John McDonnell Field on Wednesday. The Buffaloes had a total of 12 athletes compete, 11 of whom competed on the track.
The meet was supposed to start with the men's hammer throw in the morning, however, stormy weather postponed the event to the last event of the day. The change resulted in waiting until 5:30 p.m. MT for the first Buffs to see action.
Those Buffs were Isaiah Givens, Noah Hibbard and Lukas Haug in the first round of the men's 1,500-meters. Givens led the charge for CU, finishing 23rd with a time of 3:42.52. Behind him was Hibbard in 33rd and Haug in 41st.
The next race for Colorado was its most successful one of the day. Garrett Nelson, Colton Romig and Daniel Tragarz all ran in the 400-meter hurdles. Nelson placed 12th with a personal best time of 50.77. He and Romig, who finished 22nd, both qualified for the quarterfinals in the event. They will race again at 6:25 p.m. on Friday with a chance at qualifying for nationals.
Colorado's last action on the track included five Buffs in the 10,000-meters. Although no Buffs qualified in the event, CU saw two top-25 finishes with Brendan Fraser in 22nd and Austin Vancil in 23rd.
The final event of the day that was supposed to be the first was the hammer throw. Matt Ward was the only competitor for the Buffs and he fouled on all three attempts.
It will be the women's turn for the first round of the NCAA West Regionals on Thursday with events starting at 7:30 a.m. MT. Amanda Opp is set for the hammer throw early in the morning followed by Jada Green in the javelin at 11:30 a.m. On the track, Abbey Glynn and Emma Pollak will race in the 400mH before Samree Dishon, Abbey Nechanicky and Katie Doucette all compete in the 10,000m.
