Mia Landegren Named Assistant Coach

June 10, 2024 | Women's Golf

BOULDER — Mia Landegren has been named an assistant coach for the University of Colorado women's golf team.

A native of Bridgewater, Conn., Landegren was four-year golfer at Southeastern Conference power Alabama (2013-17) where she played 81 rounds in 29 tournaments with one top 20 finish. She played in three of four NCAA Championship Finals during that run with the Crimson Tide and was a member of Alabama's 2015 SEC Championship Team.

Landegren finished 24th at the 2017 NCAA Athens Regional, helping Alabama to a first place finish. She held a stroke average of 76.69 throughout her collegiate career and was fifth on the team her senior season at 76.53.

Following her collegiate career, Landegren spent four seasons on the Symetra (now Epson) Tour (2018-21). Landegren begins her duties on Monday, June 10.

"I'm just I am so thankful for the opportunity," Landegren said. "I'm thankful for coach (Madeleine Sheils) for taking the leap of faith with me and I think that we will work together really well. I look forward to the opportunity to help the group of girls grow and help them not only academically, with their career and in whatever I can provide."

Landegren arrives in Boulder after spending the last three years with VISION54, a program that teaches technical, and non-technical fundamentals of the game of golf. She has worked with numerous collegiate teams, helping players manage their body, mind and emotions to enhance a better performance state.

"(VISION54) really emphasize the human skills, what they call it, so how to manage a player's body emotions on the golf course," Landegren said. "They are more so looking at what makes a human being variable and how can I help a player manage their emotions on the golf course. It's given me great feedback as a player but also a great learning experience as a coach and something that I will take with me during my career."

Landegren, who holds dual citizenship with the United States and Sweden, was a member of the Swedish National Team, helping that country win back-to-back European Team championships in 2011 and '12.

Landegren was a three-time Dean's List honoree at Alabama, graduating with her bachelor's degree in Communication in 2017. She's currently enrolled in the LPGA Teacher education program and working on her LPGA Class A teaching certification which she's on track to complete in early 2025.

"I am beyond thrilled to welcome Mia to CU," said Colorado associate head coach Madeline Sheils, who officially becomes the third women's golf coach in team history on July 1. "Mia brings a unique background that is perfectly suited to help our athletes develop both on and off the course.

"Her experience coaching at VISION54 is a huge asset that we look forward to tapping into at practice, in competition, and in team meetings. Her impressive resume as a player for the Swedish National Team, University of Alabama, and professionally on the Epson Tour means she will be a relatable, dependable guide for our student-athletes. Mia is also a burst of positive energy and fresh ideas, and I can't wait for her to get started!"
