Team Colorado Headed To Wichita Region For TBT

June 26, 2024 | Men's Basketball

BOULDER – Team Colorado, primarily comprised of University of Colorado men's basketball alumni, is officially returning to The Basketball Tournament (TBT) and will be the No. 5 seed in the Wichita Region, July 20-24, at Koch Arena in Wichita, Kan.

Team Colorado will open TBT play against the No. 4 seed Purple Reign, a Kansas State alumni team, on Saturday, July 20, at 1 p.m. MT. The winner of that game will face either top seeded AfterShocks (Wichita State alumni) or No. 8 Midtown Prestige on Monday, July 22, at 7 p.m. MT.

The Wichita Regional championship game is Wednesday, July 24, at 7 p.m. MT. All games will be broadcast on FOX networks, including FS1 and FS2.

In its 11th season, TBT is a 64-team tournament which has exploded in popularity over the last decade. Many of the entrants are alumni teams much like Team Colorado with one common goal – to win the tournament's $1 million prize for the championship team.

Team Colorado, returning to TBT for the second-straight year and seventh time overall, will hold a training camp in Boulder July 17-18 before leaving for Wichita on July 19.

This year's edition of Team Colorado features key returnees such as Evan Battey and D'Shawn Schwartz along with some exciting first-time additions. Former NBA All-Defensive Team member Andre Roberson joins Team Colorado for the first time along with long-time professional George King, who was on last year's roster but did not compete due to an injury. Daylen Kountz, who split his collegiate career between Colorado and Northern Colorado joins the team for the first time.

Team Colorado cast its net a little further out from the boundaries of the CU Events Center, bringing in several players with some Colorado connection. Joshua Adams, a Denver native and All-American at Wyoming joins the squad along with former Northern Colorado players Andre Spight and Ibrahim Sylla.

For the second-straight year, Team Colorado will be led by Zach Ruebesam, current CU assistant coach/director of player development. While Team Colorado is certainly looking to improve on last year's first round exit, the primary focus remains on utilizing the TBT to strengthen that family culture the program has built over the last decade.

"We're always going to do this in a first-class way; making it feel like a college road trip," Ruebesam said. "This has been so big for our culture, bringing back former Buffs and getting them around our current guys on campus and then running it as first class as we can."

The winner of the Wichita Regional will play the winner of the Houston Regional in the quarterfinals on July 29 or 30 (official game date, time and location TBA). The semifinals an $1 million winner-take-all championship game will be Aug. 2 and Aug. 4 in Philadelphia, Pa. at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
