Buffs Shine on the International Stage with Steeplechase Finalists, National Records, and More
PARIS, FRANCE -- Several Colorado Buffs have advanced in the 2024 Paris Olympics, with Valerie Constien and Elizabeth Bird competing in the 3000-meter Steeplechase final today.
Women's Track and Field (400m Round 1) – Scott (Puerto Rico)
Gabby Scott took the long route to get to the semifinals. In round one, heat one, Scott finished fourth, breaking the Puerto Rico national record with a time of 50.74. New to the Olympics, the repechage round is used instead of awarding additional final slots by semifinal times. This additional race determines who fills out the rest of the slots in the final for the 200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, 1500 meters, and hurdle events.
Scott used this to her advantage, placing first in her heat with another Puerto Rico national record of 50.52, which put her second overall. Scott will race again on August 7, at 12:45 PM (MT). Fans can watch online on Peacock.
Women's Track and Field (Round 1) – Constien (U.S.A.) and Bird (U.K.) – 3,000m Steeplechase
Valerie Constien and Elizabeth Bird finished third and fourth, respectively, in heat two of the 3000m steeplechase to automatically qualify for the finals. The top five from the two heats moved on to the finals.
The finals will take place at 1:14 PM (MT). Fans can watch it online on Peacock.
Men's Triathlon – Pearson (U.S.A.)
After a pair of delays due to pollution levels in the Seine River in Paris, Morgan Pearson was finally able to compete, finishing 30th after being tangled with other swimmers and unable to catch up to the front of the pack.
Pearson had four days to shake off the disappointment and competed in the mixed relay triathlon, securing a silver medal, the U.S.A.'s second consecutive silver medal in this event.
Men's Sports Climbing (Semifinal) – Duffy (U.S.A.) – Bouldering and Lead
Colin Duffy finished 11th, recording 33.8 points in the Men's Boulder & Lead Semifinal Boulder.
Duffy will be back in action on August 7 in the Men's Boulder & Lead Semifinal Lead at 2:00 PM (MT).
