Buffs Finish Eighth At The Stanford Intercollegiate

October 19, 2025 | Women's Golf

STANFORD, Calif. – The Colorado women's golf team held its own against the nation's premier teams, finishing in eighth place at the Stanford Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Sunday at the Stanford Golf Course.

The Buffaloes completed the 54-hole event with a score of 9-over-par, 861, in a field that featured 15 of 19 teams ranked in the Top 40 of the NCAA Division I Women's Scoreboard rankings. Eight of the 11 teams Colorado placed higher than are ranked in the nation's top 40, including three in the top 12.

Colorado had its highest of three rounds on Sunday at 12-over par, but the result dropped the Buffaloes just one notch in the final standings. The seven teams that finished above Colorado are all ranked in the top 30, with four in the top 10.

"It was a disappointing final round, but overall we are happy with the final result," Colorado head coach Madeleine Sheils said. "We upset a lot of higher-ranked teams and showed that we can compete with the best."

Host and No. 3 Stanford won going away at 35-under, setting a course record on their home facility. No. 4 Oregon finished second at 14-under, four strokes better than second-ranked USC (-10).

Colorado was unable to duplicate its second round that saw the Buffaloes play at 5-under, the second-best 18-holes on a par 71 course in program history. The back nine, which had served Colorado well the first days, wasn't as friendly on Sunday as the Buffaloes played that stretch at 10-over.

Colorado picked up a little momentum down the stretch. Finishing on the front side, the Buffaloes picked up five birdies by their scoring golfers to clinch their spot in the top half of the competitive field.

"I'm really proud of how the team fought until the end," Sheils said.  "Birdies by Carolyn (Fuller), Ellen (O'Shaughnessy), and Maya (McVey) in the final holes were huge for keeping us ahead of Texas and Iowa State."

The No. 6 Longhorns and No. 31 Cyclones finished tied for ninth at 11-over, two strokes behind the Buffaloes.

Fuller had Colorado's low 54-hole score, tying for 15th overall at 2-under, 211, after an even-par 71 in the final round. Fuller was 2-over through 10 holes, but finished off the back nine with four straight pars. She got back to even on the front, carding birdies at the 501-yard par-5 first and on her second-to-last hole, the 170-yard par-3 third.

O'Shaughnessy tied for 37th overall at 4-over, 217, after a round of 74 on Sunday. O'Shaughnessy was 4-over through 13, but notched her lone birdie of the round at the par-3 third before ending with a pair of pars.

Vanessa Ngo tied for 30th overall at 2-over after a final round 77. Teemapat Pateetin tied for 65th at 9-over while Maya McVey tied for 71st, one stroke back at 10 over following a 75 on Sunday. After some struggles on the back side, McVey played her last seven holes at 1-under, with birdies at the first and her final hole, the 490-yard par-5 seventh.

"This week gives us a lot of positives to build on and we can't wait to get back after it in Hawai'i," Sheils said.

Stanford's Megha Ganne shot a final-round 66 to claim individual medalist honors at 10-under, one stroke better than teammate Paula Martin Sampedro, who led for the first two rounds, and USC's Catherine Park.

Colorado will finish off the fall portion of its schedule in just over a week, at the Nanea Invitational, Oct. 27-29, at the Nanea Golf Club in Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i.
