Havill Records 200th Point, Lacrosse Buffs Singe Sun Devils
April 06, 2025 | Lacrosse
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Colorado lacrosse team (6-5, 2-0 Big 12) defeated Arizona State (8-6, 1-1), 14-13, at Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium on Sunday, April 6.
In a tight battle with the Sun Devils, the Buffs had a strong start in their second conference matchup, taking a 5-1 lead early in the first quarter. Graduate transfer attacker Kendall Havill recorded her 200th point – combining her points at Colorado College and CU -- in the first quarter and her first hat trick for Colorado in the first half. Much of the second half was stop and go, but the Sun Devils closed the gap. Though ASU clawed back, a clutch save from freshman goalkeeper Elena Oh kept Colorado from overtime, and the Buffs took it, 14-13.
"Big conference win for us. I have so much respect for Arizona State, and they battled today," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "We knew going into the game this would be a 60-minute game, and it was. It was not our best second half, and I take responsibility for that down the stretch – I have to do a better job preparing them for those moments. But I am so proud of our ability to keep believing in ourselves and make those last couple of plays."
The Buffs out-shot the Sun Devils, 35-21, and recorded the same number of ground balls with 17. CU also caused twice as many turnovers as ASU (8-4).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Buffs came out hot right out of the gate, scoring two goals in two minutes from Pisani and Hill. ASU put a goal on the board, but CU didn't falter, netting another three in a row, including Havill's 200th career point and 11th goal of the season, as well as goals from Ryan and Hill (5-1, CU). The Sun Devils answered back and managed to bring it within one, only separated by a Havill goal (6-5, CU). Assini added another goal to finish out the quarter and increase the Buffs' lead (7-5, CU).
- The Sun Devils opened second quarter scoring, and Shoup registered her first goal of the day, 18th of the season (8-6, CU). Ryan followed Shoup's lead and managed a first-half hat trick with two more goals, both fed by Pisani (10-6). ASU snuck in a goal, but Havill became the second Buff with a hat trick in the first half off an assist from Assini (11-7). Reed, Hanlon and McLean all caused turnovers in the second quarter, with two of those three leading to goal opportunities for Colorado.
- Colorado struggled on the draw to start the third but still capitalized on offence with Havill's fourth goal of the day and Shoup's second (13-8, CU). It was back and forth with no goals for much of the third quarter, until the Sun Devils registered three goals in a row to start closing the gap (13-11, CU).
- Neither team scored in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, until Shoup netted her third of the day and 20th of the season (14-11, CU). Peluso prevented an ASU scoring opportunity by causing a turnover, holding off the Sun Devils for a few more minutes. With five and a half minutes left in the fourth, Arizona State scored back-to-back goals to bring them within one (14-13, CU). A huge save from Oh stopped a shot from ASU, and the Buffs took it, 14-13.
