Iron Sharpens Iron: Marshall Faulk Ready To Begin Coaching Career With Coach Prime
August 05, 2025 | Football
BOULDER--Marshall Faulk's journey as a coach at Colorado isn't just about coaching football — it's about shaping lives, fostering a growth mindset, and emphasizing holistic development.
As he gears up for his first season at Colorado, Faulk is focused on a singular mission: player development.
"We're putting them in uncomfortable spots, asking them to figure it out. And when they don't, we show them what's necessary to figure it out," Faulk said.
For Faulk, coaching goes beyond just teaching the fundamentals of the game. It's about cultivating football players who are versatile, adaptable, and constantly learning.
He believes that understanding all facets of the game, from what the quarterback is doing to the strategies of the offensive linemen, is crucial for success.
In Faulk's eyes, football is a different language inside the lines, and teaching his players how to communicate at a high level is paramount.
"I walk into a room ready to learn, and I just believe in life, you're sitting in one of two positions. You're either teaching or you're learning," Faulk said.

One of the driving forces behind Faulk's decision to join the coaching staff at Colorado was the opportunity to work alongside Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders.
Faulk and Sanders have been friends for many years, sharing a common vision of not only winning games on the field but also winning the game of life.
They understand the impact they can have on young men, helping them become the fathers, brothers, and husbands they aspire to be.
"Coming here, it's not just to win games on the field, but to win the game off the field, which is to make sure that these young men become what they want to become outside of football," Faulk said.
Learning from each other

Faulk's coaching philosophy extends beyond the players to his fellow coaches. He values the respect and collaboration within the coaching staff, where every opinion is welcomed and respected.
Some of the best plays in the game have been created from mistakes or unconventional ideas, and Faulk believes in the power of inclusion and learning from one another.
"Iron sharpens iron," Faulk said. "In order to become great as a team, you have to be inclusive."
A lifelong passion
---
For Faulk, coaching is not just a job; it's a continuation of his lifelong love for football.
From selling popcorn in the Superdome as a young boy to playing in the NFL and now coaching at Colorado, Faulk's journey is a testament to his passion for the game.
"I just love football and to be around the guys who gave me the opportunity to play this game and left the game in my hands, there's nothing like it," Faulk said.
As he embraces the challenges and joys of coaching, Faulk remains committed to passing on his knowledge, experiences, and love for the game to the next generation.
Through his coaching, he's not only shaping players but also shaping the future of football.
