Colorado sends five athletes to Sunday mornings singles and doubles finals

COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado Buffalo women's tennis team continue to show out at the Bedford Cup this weekend, with an all-Buffs singles finale and doubles duo on top.

"We're really pleased with the way the ladies competed today," said assistant coach Blake Mosley. "We had some adverse weather to deal with that had us indoors and out, but the team responded very well."

The newcomer duo of Lani Brotman and Yukiko Ikedo continued to climb their way through the double's competition Saturday morning, dominating with 12-straight game victories to advance to the finals.

Starting the day off with quarterfinals, the pair faced Veroux and Malazdra of New Mexico, downing the Lobo's, 6-3. From there the two were unstoppable, continuing into semifinals to down their opponents, Kojonroj and VanHouweling of Air Force, 6-0.

Across the board in the green draw, Willow Gretsch and her partner Joselyn Limbago of Air Force secured a doubles victory in round two. Grestch and Limbago downed Petre and Matsoukatidi of New Mexico, 6-3.

Moving forward to singles competition, four Buffs recorded wins to move into the main draw or consolation finals.

In the top bracket, Rebec and Brotman both captured a win to face each other in the first-place match. Rebec defeated Polina Sleptsova of Texas Tech, taking the match in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. Brotman also secured her victory in straight sets, defeating Colorado State's Sorcha Caves.

"With two finalists in the Alpha draw we are guaranteed that we will bring the Bedford Cup back to Boulder." Mosley stated.

In the consolation semifinals, the buffs secured two more wins from Crncan and Ikedo in their respective brackets.

Crncan completed a near sweep over Yu Yun Tsai of New Mexico, downing Tsai 6-1, 6-0. Across Crncan, Ikedo fought back from being down after second set, coming out on top against Utah State's Kylee Sperry.  Ikedo took the first set, 6-3, then fell short in the second, 3-6. To finish it out, Ikedo came back to secure the match, 10-6, making her way to the finals.
