September 24, 2025 | Football, General, Gameday

Collaboration between CU Athletics and the America 250 - Colorado 150 Commission to kick off the State of Colorado’s sesquicentennial celebration

Fans in attendance at the University of Colorado home football game against BYU on Saturday, Sept. 27 will be treated to a halftime drone show spectacular thanks to a partnership between CU Athletics and the America 250 - Colorado 150 Commission. In addition to providing an incredible spectacle for fans in attendance at the game, the drone show will be the official launch of the commission's statewide drone show series in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the state and the University of Colorado Boulder.

The show is produced by Brightflight Drone Shows and will feature hundreds of drones synchronized to display iconic scenes from around Colorado and Boulder, including the Flatirons, Ralphie and even Coach Prime. The show will last approximately 10 minutes and musical accompaniment will be provided by the Golden Buffalo Marching Band. The show is possible thanks to support from the Colorado Tourism Office, UCHealth, and Urban Outfitters.

"We are so excited to partner with the America 250 - Colorado 150 Commission to provide this incredible experience for Buffs fans," said Rick George, Colorado Athletic Director. "This will be the first drone show held during a CU football game, and we're proud to officially launch the celebration of the 150th anniversary of our state, as well as the 250th anniversary of our country."

"We're launching the statewide drone show series in a big way—under the lights of Folsom Field. The CU home game provides the perfect stage to kick off the first of 150 shows that will travel across Colorado, bringing a shared celebration of these historic milestones to communities large and small," shared Timothy Wolfe, America 250 - Colorado 150 Commission Co-Chair and Director of the Colorado Tourism Office.

In addition to celebrations statewide, CU Boulder is currently preparing a full schedule of celebratory events and programming to celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2026. More information on the university's 150th festivities, which will begin in January, will be announced in the days ahead.

"The University of Colorado Boulder is honored to kick off the Stories in the Sky drone show series in partnership with the America 250-150 Commission," said CU Boulder Chancellor Justin Schwartz. "It is a fitting start to our own 150th anniversary celebrations and a tribute to Colorado's rich history."
