Volleyball Spotlight Series: Kensley Hennessy

January 26, 2026 | Volleyball

BOULDER - The Colorado Women's Volleyball team added two new players to the roster ahead of the 2026 spring season. In order to get to know them all a little better, we're introducing the Volleyball Spotlight Series to highlight members of our squad.

First up is freshman middle blocker Kensley Hennessy.

How long have you been playing volleyball for?
I started playing volleyball my freshman year of high school, so four years.

What got you into volleyball?
My mom played in college.

Why did you choose CU?
I chose CU because of the facilities, the coaches, staff, the location, obviously, is beautiful, and it was just the best opportunity for me. I love it so far.

What's been the most exciting thing about moving to Colorado?
I'm from San Diego, so the weather is definitely fun – having seasons and [how] it can be cold. I've also just loved getting into a routine and learning about the program, learning about school, and enjoying college life. I like it better than high school.

What are you most excited about this spring season?
I'm excited to get stronger, get better in the gym, jump higher, work harder, and be ready for fall.

What are you looking forward to about playing in the fall?
I'm looking forward to just playing, generally, being in conference, traveling, hopefully playing in [the] tournament, just enjoying the season.

Why do you like being a middle blocker?
It took me a while to like being a middle blocker. Most people hate it when you first start it because you feel like you're always in the way. But I love running slides, and I love being able to kind of be everywhere, walking and running around.

Why did you choose integrative physiology as your major?
I really want to stay in sports, and I've always wanted to be in the medical field, but I don't want to go through medical school. So I think I want to be like medical sales or PT. Just stay working with athletes.

Can you talk about growing up riding horses and competing in shows?
I grew up riding. I started when I was three. I've showed pretty much all over the West Coast. That was my thing before I started playing volleyball because I started late. So that's what I was gonna like do in college and everything, and then I tried volleyball, and here we are. My grandma loves horses, and it was really good bonding for us. We would road trip all over together. It was really fun. I still have a horse. I still ride whenever I can.

Is there anything else you want people to know about you?
I'm excited for this new experience and new part of my life!
