PROVO, Utah - To resume fall competition, the Colorado Buffaloes tennis team will head to BYU Tuesday, Oct. 13 through Saturday, Oct. 17, to compete in the 2026 ITA Mountain Regional Championship.
For the first time this season, the Buffs will be competing at close to full strength, with seven Buffs competing on the tournament slate, the most of any tournament so far this season.Â
"Our team is pumped to be competing at regionals this week," head coach Anthony Pham said. "This group has been working very hard both on the courts and in the gym, and are looking forward to taking advantage of the opportunities available to them."
Following a competitive doubles performance in their last tournament appearance, returning Buffs Lera Alexin and Ema Bubalo enter the week as the second seed doubles team and will have a bye in the first round, awaiting the winner of the Montana and Idaho doubles match.
Second-year Yukiko Ikedo will represent Colorado in the qualifying singles tournament, while the remainder of the six buffs will compete in the singles main draw.
"This is one of our biggest weeks of our fall," assistant coach Erick Garcia said. "We feel like we are ready to perform and if we play the way we are capable, we will have a good chance to compete for the qualifying spot for nationals."Â
Colorado's Willow Gretsch and Heidi Crncan will face Air Force's twin sisters Tia and Tana Christopolus in doubles play, while Pia Rebec and first-year Louise Ternstroem will take on the Falcons' Maya Michalski and Stephanie Marcheret.Â
"The region continues to get stronger and stronger," Pham said. "Erick and I are excited to see how the team responds to all of the challenges we will encounter."Â
Play will begin Tuesday morning with Colorado looking to build on its early fall performances and capitalize on opportunities throughout the five-day tournament.Â
