FORT WORTH, Texas — No. 24 Colorado volleyball fell short against No. 9 TCU, dropping the match in four sets (17-25, 25-20, 17-25, 20-25) on Friday night at Schollmaier Arena.

CU moves to 10-3 on the season and 1-2 in Big 12 Conference play, while TCU improves to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

"I think we put ourselves in position to get some transition opportunities and couldn't quite do what we needed to do. At some point in the match, both sides are doing what the other side expects," Head Coach Jesse Mahoney said. "We will digest this match really quickly and be ready for Baylor on Sunday."

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Set One: Colorado responded aggressively to an early three-point deficit with senior pin attacker Ana Burilovic leading the offense, securing two early kills and tying the match 4-4. Burilovic and senior middle blocker Cayla Payne each added a kill to match a pair of Horned Frogs points.

Numerous TCU errors kept the score even at 14. TCU was unable to pull away as the Buffs outhit the Frogs early. Burilovic reached her fifth kill of the set to tie the contest 15-15.

TCU took a quick lead, but Burilovic continued to carry Colorado offensively by providing three kills, all assisted by senior setter Jenna Ylivainio, trailing 19-17.

The Frogs ended on a 6-0 run to secure the first set, 25-17.

Set Two: The teams exchanged points to start the set, with a kill from senior pin attacker Lily Dwinell and a Burilovic ace giving the Buffs a 5-4 lead. TCU attempted to respond, but Colorado launched a 4-0 run, bookended by Dwinell kills to put CU up 11-7.

Junior libero Tinons Munar Galmes extended Colorado's lead with an ace on her third-straight serve, giving the Buffs a 14-9 advantage.

The Frogs cut their deficit to two, but back-to-back kills and a solo block from sophomore pin Ines Losada helped Colorado to a 21-16 lead.

The Buffs held steady as kills from Dwinell and Ylivainio gave CU the second set, 25-20.

Set Three: The match remained competitive with Colorado securing a kill from Losada and an ace from junior defensive specialist Katie Salonga, tying the score at six — the 20th tie of the night.

Neither opponent could pull ahead, as the score remained knotted at 11.

The Frogs then took a 16-12 lead off a 6-0 run before back-to-back Burilovic kills ended the scoring streak, pulling the Buffs within three at 16-13.

Colorado errors gave TCU the third set, 25-17.

Set Four: Colorado brought energy early in the set, claiming four of the first five points, highlighted by kills from junior middle blocker Maria Splawska and Payne. TCU responded with a 6-0 run of its own to take an 8-5 lead.

The Buffs continued to battle with the Frogs, as additional kills from Payne, Losada and Splawska kept CU within closing distance, trailing 13-9.

Burilovic's 12th kill extinguished a 3-0 TCU run before the senior secured an ace, cutting the deficit to four with CU trailing 18-14.

Two Losada kills provided a spark, and a Splawska kill put the Buffs within three, trailing 22-19.

However, TCU held onto its lead and took the match 25-10.
