Georgia Tech Moved To Thursday

Colorado–Georgia Tech Season Opener Moved to Thursday, Sept. 3

February 16, 2026 | Football

BOULDER — Colorado's 2026 football season opener at Georgia Tech has been moved up and will now be played Thursday, Sept. 3, in Atlanta. Kickoff time will be announced at a later date, with the game set for national broadcast on ESPN.

The move continues a recent trend for the Buffaloes, whose season opener has been shifted off a traditional Saturday now for the third straight season and for the 12th time in the last 14 seasons. Last season's opener against Georgia Tech at Folsom Field was played on a Friday night.

The matchup is the second game of a home-and-home series between the programs, with Georgia Tech taking a 1-0 lead in the series after a 27-20 win last year at Folsom Field.  The Buffaloes will look to even the series in what will be just their second game played in the state of Georgia, having also played at the University of Georgia in 2006.

CU will be playing in Atlanta for the first time, where Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders has plenty of history, playing for the Atlanta Falcons from 1989-93 and for the Atlanta Braves from 1991-94.  It was there on Oct. 11, 1992, that he became the only player in history to suit up for both an NFL and MLB game on the same day.

Colorado's home opener will be the following week on Sept. 12 against Weber State, the first of six games home games in 2026. Big 12 play in Boulder will feature visits from Texas Tech, Utah, Kansas State, Houston, and UCF, as the Buffaloes prepare for another exciting season of Big 12 football aided by the energy of Folsom Field.

Don't miss the traditions that make gameday in Boulder unlike anywhere else. BUY TICKETS NOW! From tailgating around the stadium and the Buff Walk to the Golden Buffalo Marching Band's pregame entrance through Balch Fieldhouse, culminating with the best tradition in college football — the running of Ralphie — the Folsom Field experience delivers unforgettable moments for more than 50,000 fans each week.
