Buffs Grind Through Opening Rounds At Big 12 Golf Championship

April 27, 2026 | Men's Golf

HUTCHINSON, Kan.— The Colorado Buffaloes men's golf team opened play Monday at the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club.

The Buffs struggled out of the gate and sit in 14th place at 20-over par through 36 holes.

Ty Holbrook and Hunter Swanson lead the Buffaloes at 2-over for the championship, tied for 25th.

Colorado opened with a 293 before shaving six strokes in round two with a 287 on the par 70, 7,025 yard course.

Oklahoma State leads the field after tying a Championship record by shooting 14-under par through 36 holes. The Cowboys set a Big 12 Championship single-round record with a 13-under par 267 in the second round to take a commanding lead over Arizona, who sits in second at 7-under with Texas Tech in third at -1. TCU sits fourth at 1-over, while BYU rounds out the top five at +2.

How It Happened

Round 1
Colorado posted a team score of 293 in the opening round of the 72-hole event, with three Buffaloes finishing near the top of the individual leaderboard.

Swanson and Brandon Knight led the way for CU in the first round, each carding a 2-over 72 to sit tied for 28. Swanson concluded the round with a birdie and eight straight pars on the front nine, delivering one of the most consistent rounds for the Buffs, recording 14 pars.

Knight closed with a 34, recording two birdies and five pars over his final seven holes to finish at 2-over 72.

Holbrook followed closely behind, finishing at 3-over 73 and in 37th place.

"Tough first day," said head coach Roy Edwards. "Overall, we hit way too many balls into the gunch and that made it very hard to score. Fortunately, the guys did a good job of competing all day and that mitigated the damage."

Round 2

The Buffs settled in during the second round, posting a 287 and improving by six strokes. Holbrook led the charge with a 1-under 69, the top round of the day for Colorado, while Swanson added an even par 70 to move into a tie for 25th. Knight carded a 3-over 73 and sits 42nd, while Jackson Rivera posted a 75, and Parker Paxton added a 76 to round out the scoring.

"Ty had a nice second round and Hunter really managed his game well," Edwards said. "We expect to come out tomorrow and compete and get back in the tournament."

After 36 holes, Edwards emphasized the need for the Buffs to be better off the tee and more committed to their lines moving forward.

Up Next

The Buffaloes will return to Prairie Dunes Country Club on Tuesday for the third round of the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship, looking to climb the leaderboard heading into the final round on Wednesday.
