BOULDER — While continuing to prepare for the upcoming NCAA Regional tournament, Colorado head women's golf coach Madeleine Sheils took time to hand out team awards this week.
Junior Carolyn Fuller earned Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Award honors. Sophomore Ellen O'Shaughnessy took home the Toughest Buff Award. Freshman Teemapat Pateetin was the recipient of the Clever Coloradoan Award, while classmate Brenna Higgins was presented with the Shoulder to Shoulder Award.
Fuller leads Colorado in scoring average at 73.19. She owns seven top 20 finishes this season, including three top 10s. Fuller has six rounds in the 60s this season, tying for the second most in team history. Her 66 during the third round at the Chevron Silverado Showdown ties for the best Spring season round in the Buffaloes' record book.
Fuller won the Most Improved Award for the second straight season. She has improved her stroke average by more than two shots per round over her sophomore season total.
Pateetin claimed the Clever Coloradoan Award, given to the student-athlete who excels at the highest level both in the classroom and on the course. The Clever Coloradoan Award recipient is required to have at least a 3.5 GPA and a scoring average below 75. Pateetin aced both marks, earning a perfect 4.0 GPA during her first collegiate term, while ranking fourth on the team with a 74.55 scoring average.
O'Shaughnessy, the Buffaloes' second-ranked golfer in terms of scoring average (74.28) was presented the Toughest Buff Award by Colorado strength and conditioning coach Skylar Rubalcaba, for her outstanding effort in the weight room.
Higgins earned the Shoulder to Shoulder Award. Voted on by team members, this award is given to the player who embodies the highest ideal of what it means to be a great teammate.
