June 10, 2026 | Lacrosse
BOULDER — Colorado women's lacrosse standout Lily Assini has been selected to compete in the Women's Lacrosse League (WLL), becoming the first Buffalo to join the league and the sixth known Colorado player to reach the professional ranks.
A Centennial, Colo., native, Assini recently completed one of the most accomplished careers in Colorado history. A three-time All-American selection, she earned third-team honors in 2025 after receiving honorable mention recognition in each of the previous two seasons.
Assini capped her senior campaign by ranking fourth on the team with 30 goals and second with 23 assists while extending her point-scoring streak to 34 consecutive games dating back to the 2024 season. She also contributed 29 ground balls, 23 draw controls and 17 caused turnovers, showcasing the versatility that made her one of the Buffaloes' most complete players.
Among her season highlights were six games with multiple assists, including a career-high four-assist performance against Towson. Her all-around impact helped Colorado advance to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals and finish with one of the most successful seasons in program history.
The Women's Lacrosse League launched in 2025 as the premier professional women's lacrosse league in the United States. The league features many of the top players in the sport and represents the latest step in the continued growth of professional opportunities for women's lacrosse athletes.
Assini's selection continues Colorado's growing presence at the professional level. She becomes the sixth known Buffalo to be drafted, signed or rostered by a professional women's lacrosse league.
Colorado's professional lineage began in the Women's Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL), where former Buffs Sarah Brown and Paige Soenksen played for the New York Fight. Samantha Nemirov later joined the New England Command and scored two goals in her professional debut, while Miranda Stinson was selected in the 2019 WPLL Draft.
In 2023, Charlie Rudy was selected in the Athletes Unlimited College Draft, further extending Colorado's footprint in the professional game. Brown was also drafted and played in Athletes Unlimited. Assini now becomes the program's first known representative in the Women's Lacrosse League era.
