The Buffs will open the season at home against Cal State Northridge on Aug. 28

BOULDER – The Colorado volleyball team announced its full schedule, including 10 nonconference matches to start the season, on Wednesday, June 3.

Coming off a competitive spring and the program's 12th NCAA Tournament Second Round appearance all-time,
CU will open nonconference play at home against Cal State Northridge (CSUN) in the Buffs Classic tournament in Boulder, on Aug. 28. The Buffs are 28-12 (.700) in season openers and 664-546 (.549) in matches all-time.

Along with CSUN, Colorado will host Central Arkansas and Denver in the Buffs Classic Tournament on Aug. 29 and 30, respectively. The following week, the Buffs will welcome Wichita State (Sept. 4), New Mexico (Sept. 5), and Northern Colorado (Sept. 6) to CU Events Center for the Buffs Invitational Tournament. CU will also host five neutral matches across both tournaments -- Denver vs. Central Arkansas (Aug. 28), Denver vs. CSUN (Aug. 29), CSUN vs. Central Arkansas (Aug. 30), Northern Colorado vs. New Mexico (Sept. 4), and Northern Colorado vs. Wichita State (Sept. 5).

Following the two tournaments, CU heads to Los Angeles for two matches – one versus Oregon State (Sept. 11) and at USC (Sept. 12). Matches before conference will wrap up with back-to-back games against Colorado's nonconference in-state rival, Colorado State (Sept. 17 & 18). The first match will take place at the CU Events Center, and both teams will head to Fort Collins, Colo., the following day for the annual Battle for the Golden Spike.

The Buffs and the Big 12 announced the 2026 conference schedule in mid-April. After opening conference play at home against Utah (Sept. 25) and Arizona (Sept. 27), Colorado will spend most of October on the road, starting with a trip to TCU and Baylor on Oct. 2 and 4. The following week, the Buffs will split away and home, taking on Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz., on Oct. 9, and competing with Kansas State on Oct. 11 back at the CU Events Center. CU will then go back on the road for back-to-back weeks at Iowa State (Oct. 15) and BYU (Oct. 22), before meeting the Utes again on their turf (Oct. 25). The Black and Gold wrap up October and begin November back in Boulder against Cincinnati (Oct. 29) and Texas Tech (Nov. 1).

During the first full week in November, the Buffs will host BYU (Nov. 5) before heading to West Virginia on Nov. 8. CU then hosts two in a row versus Kansas (Nov. 12) and Baylor (Nov. 15). Back on the road the following week, Colorado meets with Houston (Nov. 20) and UCF (Nov. 22), before wrapping up the conference season versus Iowa State at home after Thanksgiving (Nov. 27).

Colorado finished the 2025 season 23-9 and went 12-6 against Big 12 opponents. Coach Mahoney has led the Buffs to a 164-135 record in his 10 seasons at the helm. The Buffs made their 22nd appearance in the NCAA tournament after the conclusion of the regular season, sweeping American in the first round before falling to four-seed Indiana in the second round. The Buffs' last match against the Hoosiers marked the 12th second-round appearance in program history. Colorado had 20 wins this season, marking the program's 13th 20-win season and its first since 2022. With 23 wins this past season, this is the most in a season since 2017 and ties for the third-most wins in a season in program history.

The 2026 volleyball season marks the program's 40th anniversary, and Colorado will host celebrations throughout the fall. Fans can look forward to themed giveaways and promotions this season, with more details to be announced at a later date. Fans can view the full schedule here and below.
