Mahoney, Bolles, Burilovic and Jordan Make An Appearance At Fall Sports Media Day

BOULDER — Colorado's 73rd Annual Fall Sports Media Day took place on Friday. Coaches and student-athletes from each fall sport came to represent their program and preview the upcoming season. Colorado volleyball head coach Jesse Mahoney and seniors Avery Bolles, Ana Burilovic and Sydney Jordan answered questions regarding the competitiveness and special bond of this 2026 roster.
"We have a really, really strong core group of girls that have known each other for so long. We know each other in and out, and I think that we also know how we play in and out," Jordan said. "We know what is expected of each other as well, and that allows us to hold each other accountable because of that trust that we've built. That trust is the foundation of what our season is going to be this year."
The Buffs concluded their 2025 season with a No. 3 ranking in the Big 12 and a run in the NCAA tournament. Though the team showed significant growth, the job is not yet finished.
"I don't think this team is in a place where we feel satisfied," Mahoney said. "The group around me now and most of the core of our team is going into their third or fourth year, and they've been through this process where they built themselves into a really good team. They're looking forward to making their third and fourth years something special."
Bolles, Burilovic and Jordan have all played their entire collegiate careers at Colorado. They have grown as players, but more importantly, as people.
"We created such a great culture," Burilovic said. "I feel success comes from having great foundations and loyalty to Colorado. We love to hang out together. We love to see each other on the court, be happy with each other and build that success."
As the 2026 volleyball season fast approaches, Colorado has set the bar high. The Buffs are entering the year with a clear focus on turning last season's tournament run into something even bigger.
"Our team, we take goal setting very seriously. Outside of team meetings with the coaches, we sit down, we set our goals for the season," Bolles said. "Our goals this season are higher than last season, and kind of developing our own new identity, even though we do have a lot of the same pieces."
For a first look at this year's team, the Buffs will host their Black and Gold Scrimmage at CU Events Center at noon on Aug. 22. Admission is free.
