BOULDER – Quarterback Julian Lewis had a stellar afternoon in Colorado's win vs. Weber State on Saturday. Despite playing for just two and a half quarters as the Buffs cruised to a 52-21 victory, the redshirt freshman set several program records with his performance, including:
Most passing yards in a quarter: Lewis threw for 212 yards on 7-of-8 passing in the first quarter, setting a new CU record and surpassing Joel Klatt's previous mark of 211 yards against Texas A&M on Oct. 8, 2005.
Most passing touchdowns in a quarter: Lewis threw three touchdown passes in the first quarter, tying the CU record previously accomplished six times.
Most passing touchdowns in a game by a redshirt or true freshman: Lewis finished the first half with four touchdown passes, setting a new CU record for touchdown passes by a redshirt freshman in a game. Steven Montez previously held the record with three, which he accomplished twice.
Most passing touchdowns in the first half: Lewis threw four touchdown passes in the first half, tying the CU record. He became the first quarterback in program history to throw four passing touchdowns in the first half. Three other quarterbacks had previously reached four in a half, but none did so in the first.
Highest QBR in a half: Lewis posted a 311.1 QBR in the first half after completing 15 of 18 passes for 331 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. He surpassed Shedeur Sanders' previous CU record of 281.3, set in the second half against TCU in 2023.
"That's cool, having the first half record," said Lewis, after the game. "But we were just trying to win the game. You saw, we were still in that game, those guys were out there competing against us, so we've still got a lot to grow."
Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders was satisfied with the quarterback's performance.
"Statistically, what was it? 17 of 23, 366 [yards], four touchdowns and no picks. I'm happy," he said.
Despite the win, the quarterback is looking ahead to the rest of the season.
"Nobody is satisfied with where we're at. 2-0 is not the end goal," Lewis said. "We all want to be Big 12 champions and national champions and have a chance to really compete against those types of guys."
