Bio
Freshman (2002): Matassa played in eight games and had one assist as a reserve midfielder. She earned her lone assist in a 2-1 win over Oklahoma on Oct. 25.
High School: Matassa lettered four years for head coach Steve Dickey. The biggest moment of her prep career was Mullen winning the 2001 4A State Championship. Mullen successfully defended its state title and went 16-2-1 Matassa's senior year where she recorded three goals and seven assists. She played for Amanda Schmitz and the Colorado Rush on the club level and her Olympic Development Program experience includes state pool player in 1997, '98 and '99. She was considering attending Northwestern State (La.), Seattle Pacific, Regis and UT-Chattanooga before deciding to attend Colorado.
In The Classroom: A straight-A student her senior year, Matassa graduated with a 4.3 gpa. A National Honor Society member her sophomore through senior years, she will be a declared biology major in September. Throughout her prep career she earned excellence awards in algebra, French, English and geometry, trigonometry, psychology and physiology, as well as Academic First Honors her freshman, sophomore and junior years. She would like to pursue a veterinarian career after college.
Personal: The daughter of Michael and Mary Anne Matassa of Arvada, Michelle Rose Matassa was born in Wheat Ridge, Colo .. In keeping with the family tradition, she will be the fourth child in her family to attend Colorado, following in the footsteps of 29-year-old Michael Jr., 27-year-old Angela and 23-year-old Andrea, who is an alumni of the Colorado soccer program, having lettered during the 1997-2000 seasons and is currently an assistant coach at Boulder High School. Her older brother Matthew graduated from Gonzaga.
