2019: Became just the second female in school history to earn All-America status…recorded a 38th-place finish at NCAAs to lead the team…was CU’s top finisher in every race…placed ninth at regionals to pick up all-region honors…at the Pac-12 Championship, placed 11th for second team honors…was third at NCAA Pre-Nationals…ran unattached at the Wyoming Invitational, placing fourth.
2018: Continued to have success with the Buffs, helping them win an NCAA Championship as she picked up her third All-America cross country honor...was the fourth Buff to cross the finish, coming in 22nd…CU defeated New Mexico 65-103 to easily win the team championship as all five scorers finished in the top 24… season started off with a 13th place finish at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational where CU also took home the team title.
2017: Started the campaign racing unattached at the Colorado State Invitational, finishing seventh…at the Joe Piane Invitational, she finished 10th as CU’s No. 4 harrier, helping the Buffs to a first-place team finish…was the second Buff to cross the finish at pre-nationals, placing 17th as CU finished second as a team…recorded a ninth-place individual finish at the Pac-12 Championships, helping the Buffs win their third straight title while recording All-Pac-12 Second Team honors…in the next two meets, she was CU’s No. 2 runner...placed 12th at regionals to earn her first all-region recognition…at NCAAs she finished 35th to record her second straight All-America honor, helping the Buffs place third for the second consecutive season in the team race.
2016: Earned a spot on the varsity roster as a true freshman...after running a pair of races unattached, she entered the CU line-up at NCAA Pre-Nationals and placed 36th…was CU’s No. 5 runner at the Pac-12 Championships…she was 15th overall and helped CU to its second straight team title…served as the team’s alternate at regionals, but was back in the line-up at nationals where she recorded her first All-American honor with a 40th place finish while CU took third in the team race.
HIGH SCHOOL: Three-time New York State Cross Country Champion, winning the title as a senior, junior and in seventh grade, becoming the only seventh grader to ever win the title…as a senior, Hurta also placed 10th at Foot Locker Nationals in 2015…earned six letters on the cross country team and six on the track team at Hamilton Central…on the track, Hurta won four New York State Division 2 Championships…recorded a pair of titles as a senior, winning the 800 and 1,500…as a junior, she was the 800 champion and won the 1,500 for the first time as a sophomore…owns school records in the 200, 400, 800, 1,500, 3,000 and 2,000-meter steeplechase and was part of the school’s record setting 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and sprint medley relay teams…also owns conference records in the 400, 800, 1,500 and 3,000, as well as New York Section 3 records in the 1,500 (indoor), mile (indoor) and 800 (outdoor)…as a senior, she placed seventh in the mile at New Balance Indoor Nationals and was second in the 800 at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals…named a National Merit Scholarship Recipient and was her class’s valedictorian.
HIGH SCHOOL BESTS: 800-meter: 2:06.37; 1,500-meters: 4:25.29; Mile: 4:47.75; 3,000-meters: 10:06.67.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Majoring in chemical and biological engineering/pre-medicine…minoring in statistics…owns an impressive 3.976 GPA…two-time member of the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team.
PERSONAL: Sage Alexandra Hurta…born June 23, 1998 in Buffalo, N.Y….daughter of Gary and Amy Hurta of Hamilton, N.Y….mother ran cross country and track at Cornell…father was also on the track team at Cornell.
