Fifth Year (2021): Voted a team captain…Started 18 and played in all 19 matches…Scored her lone goal of the season in CU’s 3-2 loss at ASU (10/28)…Had a season-high three shots at ASU…Played a season-high 107 minutes in CU’s 2-2 draw at California (9/25)…Played 1,286 total minutes…Helped the team to four shutout victories.
Senior (2020): Chapa played in just two games before an injury cut her 2020 season short...She started both matches against Denver and Northern Colorado.
Junior (2019): Chapa started in all 22 matches in her second year in Boulder...She recorded her first career goal against Arizona State...Chapa finished the season with five points, adding three assists...She finished sixth on the team with her 1,695 minutes played...Played all 110 minutes in CU’s draw with California...Finished the season with two shots, one shot on goal and .500 shot on goal percentage.
Sophomore (2018): Chapa played in 13 matches for the Buffs, earning a start against UCLA. She helped keep the opposition scoreless in six matches. Chapa played a season-high 80 minutes against UCLA. She played in 344 minutes this season. Chapa attempted one shot against Utah Valley.
Freshman (2017 at Illinois): Chapa made 13 appearances and started eight times for Illinois. Her first career assist came on the game-winner against Evansville on Aug. 31. She also attempted three shots during the season.
ODP: She was a 2016 ODP regional team member.
High School: Chapa graduated from Doherty High School in 2017. She led her team to the state tournament twice and was named all-conference and all-area as a junior, but did not play her senior season. Also a letterwinner in track, she ran the Colorado Springs area’s best time in the 100 meters in 12.23 as a senior, placing ninth at the Class 5A state meet.
Club: She played for Pride Soccer Club and won the 2014 U-15 National League Championship. She was a member of the 2016 all-star team and helped Pride finish third at nationals in 2015. She was a four-time State Cup champion and was named the State Cup MVP.
In the Classroom: She is majoring in enviromental design.
Personal: Gabbi Chapa was born on April 12, 1999, and is the daughter of Armando and Shannon Chapa. She has a brother, Griffin. Her mother ran track at UTEP. Outside of sports, she was involved in her high school’s tea club and student council, as well as DECA. Her favorite athlete is Serena Williams.
