2003:  In her first cross country season in two years after having compartmental syndrome surgery in 2002 when she was at Georgia Tech.  She didn’t lose any strides since her national runner-up season in 2001, and started the season as CU’s No. 2 runner  before finishing as No. 1 the last two races of the season.  After leading a good portion of the race, she finished fourth overall in her CU debut Rocky Mountain Shootout, and ninth at the Pre-National Invitational, a race she finished second in 2001.  She was CU’s No. 2 finisher, and race runner-up at the Big 12 Championships before coming in as CU’s top runner, fourth overall, at her second altitude test of her career in Riverdale, Utah at the NCAA Mountain Region qualifier.  She earned her second All-American title in cross country (seventh overall) with a 15th place in Waterloo, Iowa. 

2002 (at Georgia Tech): Redshirt the season following compartmental syndrome surgery. 

2001 (at Georgia Tech):  The national runner-up at the NCAA Championships in Greenville, S.C. posted a 6k time of 20:31 to finish seven seconds behind national champion Tara Chaplin of Arizona and became Georgia Tech’s second All-American in the sport.  Her first collegiate win was at the national qualifying race, when she won the South Region title in 20:20.39, pacing Georgia Tech to their first-ever team crown.  She became Tech’s first all-conference performer since 1996 when she finished second at the ACC Championships.  During the regular season she was Tech’s No. 1 runner, and second at the Pre-National Invitational and seventh at Roy Griak.  Following the season she was a Honda Broderick award finalist in cross country. 

2000 (at Georgia Tech):  She recorded four top-20 finishes and led the Jackets in two races.  She earned All-South Region honors with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Regional meet in Tuscaloosa, Ala. with a time of 21:08.86.  Her best finish of the year came at the Georgia Intercollegiate, as she placed third with a time of 18:15. 

High School:   She competed in the 1999 Footlocker National High School Cross Country Championships as a member of the South team.  Metivier led her team to a pair of cross country state titles in 1996 and 1999, along with winning the individual crown as a senior.  She won the 2000 Texas state title in the 1600 meters and placed fourth in the 3200 meters at the same meet.  She earned all-state honors all four years and was named the Dallas/Ft. Worth Runner of the Year on three occasions, including twice in cross country (1997 & ?99) and for track in 2000. 

In The Classroom:   A math major, Metivier was a Dean’s List student during the spring ?04 semester and has a 3.460 gpa.   

Personal:   Renee Lynn Metivier was born on Christmas Day, 1981 in Munster, Ind.  Her parents are Richard and Cynthia Metivier of Highland Village, Texas and her sister, Megan, is a junior on the University of Texas campus.
