Junior (1999): Cartmell started all 20 games for the Buffs at forward and had seven goals and four assists for 18 points. She led or tied for the team lead in assists, points and shot attempts (55). She scored in each of the first three games of the year, including the 88th-minute winner of a 2-1 win over Kansas on Aug. 27 to open the year. She also had a score against Missouri in the second game of the year and a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over UAB on Sept. 3. She repeated that statline on Sept. 17 with a goal and assist in a 3-1 win over Alabama. Cartmell scored in back-to-back games--both game-winners--on Sept. 22 vs. Air Force and Sept. 24 vs. Utah. Her final goal of the season came in a 3-1 win at Oklahoma State on Oct. 3. She had an assist in each of the final two games vs. two ranked teams in No. 25 Baylor on Oct. 24, and No. 25 Missouri in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament.
Sophomore (1998): In 20 starts for Colorado, Cartmell was the Buffs' leading scorer in '98, netting six goals and two assists for 14 points on 50 shots, the third best single season total at Colorado. The six-goal total tied the record for goals in a season set by Shawn Kenyon in 1996 and tied by Donna Holyman in 1997, and the 14 points is the second-highest single seas point total by a Buff player. She dished out her assists early in the season, first against George Washington on Sept. 6 a then at BYU on Sept. 11. She registered her second career two-goal game on Sept. 25 against UMass, and notched the game-tying goal against Oklahoma State with just 4:22 to play in the game. She also notched the game-winning goal against intrastate rival Colorado College overtime on Oct. 7. She wrapped up the 1998 season scoring the Buffs' final two goals; the first a game-winner against Kansas and the second against Missouri in the season finale. She now sits at second on the career charts in career points with 25, career goals with 11, career assists w three, and career shots with 87.
Freshman (1997): Started each of the Buffs' 18 games on the season, registering five goals and an assist on 37 shots. Her 11 points were · second most on the team (the most among returning players), and she registered Colorado's game-winning goal on Nov. 2 against Denver.
High School: Cartmell was a three-year letterwinner for head coach Sue High and San Ramon Valley, and was a three-time all-East I Athletic League selection. She led the league in scoring each of her final three seasons, topping the league list in both goals and assists as a senior. She was named one of the top 50 athletes in the East Bay region by the San Ramon Valley Times her sophomore through senior years and named San Ramon Valley High's 1997 Female Athlete of the Year. In her three years on the varsity squad, she scored 62 goals and racked up assists, totals which included 19 goals and 13 assists her senior year and which were tops in her league in that time period. San Ramon Valley was 55-6-7 during Cartmell's career, reaching the NCS (North Coast Section) finals her sophomore and junior seasons and the semifinals senior campaign. Academically, she was an honor roll member each of her eight semesters at San Ramon Valley, and also earned an academic letter. She earned a coveted "Academic Torch" from San Ramon Valley, graduated in the top 15 percent of her class with a 3.8 grade pc average, received the USMC Distinguished Athlete Award, was named a lifetime member of the California Scholarship Federation, and was a scholar athlete all four years at Valley. Cartmell also participated in track, in the 110 and 330-meter hurdles, and holds a school record in latter, set her sophomore year; that effort, teamed with her soccer prowess, earned her the county's "Athlete of the Year" award in 1995.
Personal: Born May 30, 1979, in Walnut Creek, Calif., Cartmell is majoring in communication and elementary education, and was one Colorado's six first-team academic all-Big 12 selections in 1997, and one of five in 1998. Her parents are Brian and Tina Cartmell of Danv Calif. She was also recruited by Utah, California, Clemson and Arizona State. Her grandfather, Patrick Cartmell, played soccer for Navy in 40s. Her hobbies include water and snow skiing and shopping.
