u      First Career Starts: ILB Walter Boye-Doe and DT Vaka Manupuna made their first career starts today as the Buffs opened in a 4-3 on defense for the first time this season.  Boye-Doe became the fifth member of the 2003 recruiting class to start this year, joining S Dominique Brooks, OG Brian Daniels, S Lorenzo Sims and CB Terrence Wheatley.

u      The last safety against Colorado also came in the state of Kansas, when Kansas tackled Chris Brown in the end zone for a safety in the first quarter in last year’s game in Lawrence (a 53-29 CU win on Oct. 12).

u      Colorado extended its consecutive games scoring streak to 179 (adding to the school record); that’s the ninth longest streak in the nation.  It was the 111th straight league game CU has scored in, including all 61 in Big 12 play.  First Drives: It’s the second straight game the Buffs scored on the first possession of the game, with back-to-back TDs against KU and KSU (CU didn’t score on its first possession until the KU game).  However, in the last four games, the Buffs have amassed 313 yards on their first possession, or 78.3 per).  Joel Klatt completed 6-of-6 passes for 55 yards and had two rushes for 7 yards on CU’s opening drive, including a fourth down sneak for a first down.

u      PK Mason Crosby’s 53-yard field goal attempt that sailed wide left early in the second quarter ended his streak of five straight makes to open his career?falling one shy in his bid to tie Jeremy Aldrich for the most made to start a CU career (Aldrich made his first six over the 1996 and 1997 seasons).

u      TB Brian Calhoun caught a career-high seven passes (for 38 yards), and picked up 87 yards rushing on 19 tries.  Coming in, he had caught eight passes on the year (for 67 yards).

u      WR Jeremy Bloom.  Bloom had his first career kickoff return for a touchdown, the fifth play of his 20-game career over 75 yards (all for touchdowns).  He has TD receptions of 94 (vs. KSU in 2002) and 81 yards (vs. Florida State this year), and punt return scores of 80 (against OU in the ’02 Big 12 title game) and 75 yards (vs. CSU in the ’02 opener).

u      Colorado had two punts blocked in the same game for the fourth time in its history, the first time since Oct. 25, 1958 when Nebraska blocked two in Boulder.

u      WR Derek McCoy (5-52 receiving) moved into sixth all-time at Colorado in receptions with 113, passing Monte Huber (111) this afternoon.

u      WR D.J. Hackett (7 receptions, 106 yards, 1 TD) had his third 100-yard receiving game of the season, also going over the century mark against Colorado State and Baylor.

u      Nine different players caught passes for Colorado, the sixth time in seven games at least eight players have had one or more catches this year.

u      QB Joel Klatt.  With 290 yards, he increased his season total to 1,470; he moved into 20th on CU’s all-time passing yards list, moving ahead of Frank Cesarek (1,398) and Jim Bratten (1,416) today.  He’s started all of five games in his CU career.

u      CU held Kansas State to no sacks in the game, and the opponent now has just two in three league games (Baylor and Kansas each had just one).

u      Colorado has now allowed 40 or more points in five straight games; on only one occasion has CU allowed 40-plus five straight times, that occurring in 1980, when the Buffs allowed a school record 451 points in 11 games.  K-State’s 20 fourth quarter points marked the sixth time CU has allowed 20 or more points in a quarter this year.

u      Colorado’s opponents now have just committed one turnover in the last 17 quarters, including three turnover free games (the only one was a fumble by Baylor).

u      Today’s loss snaps an 11-game winning streak Colorado had against Big 12 North opponents.  The last loss was a 34-32 setback at Nebraska to end the 2000 season.
