SALT LAKE CITY, Utah ? A pair of Colorado women’s doubles team kept to its winning ways at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships hosted by the University of Utah, however both faltered in the Round of 16 Friday evening.

 

In consolation round play, sophomore Jessica Vanderdys advanced to the finals winning two matches on Friday to reach Sunday's final. After falling in her first match of the tournament, Vanderdys has rallied to win four consecutive matches. On Friday she easily defeated Wendi Webster of Wichita State, 6-1, 6-0 and during the evening play, outlasted Hana Kraftova of Missouri in three sets, 6-3, 6-7, 1-0(4).

 

Vanderdys will take on senior Anna Dybicz of Arkansas Sunday morning at 9:00.

 

In day three of the region event, Jenny Hanson and Jessica Vanderdys defeated Wyoming’s Jennifer Hancock/Yulini Santi, 9-7, then fell to top-seeded Urska Juric/Katka Sevcikova of Missouri, 8-4 in the main draw doubles top half. In the same bracket, CU’s Morgan Sall and Kendra Strandemo defeated Missouri’s Mary Barry/Erika Josbena, 8-5, then subsequently fell to Denver’s Yanick Dullens/Suzana Maksovic, 8-4 in the next round.

 

The Buffaloes also appeared in the main draw bottom half of the bracket with freshmen Kristy Randono and Marina Sedivec losing to Barbara Kourim and Jenny Trettin of Denver, 8-5 in the Round of 32.

 

In singles, Strandemo lost her bid to advance to the Round of 32, falling to Missouri’s Katika Sevcokova, 4-6, 6-0, 6-1. 

 

The Central Region tournament features over 120 participants in singles play and 56 doubles entries from 26 college teams across the region. The field includes competitors from Utah, Boise State, BYU, Utah State and Weber State; Mountain West Conference schools Colorado State, New Mexico and Wyoming; and other top teams such as Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Tulsa.
