CU PAIR FALL IN ROUND OF 16; DOUBLES REACHES SEMIFINAL
LAS VEGAS, Nev. ? Colorado freshmen Peter Bjork and Marek Dvorak run at the 2003 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region Championships at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas came to an end Friday, both falling in the Round of 16. Bjork lost to top seeded Shannon Buck of Air Force, 6-2, 6-1, ending his three-match win streak, while Dvorak, lost to fourth seeded Guillaume Bouvier of Boise State, 6-3, 6-4. ”Both competed very well,” said CU head coach Sam Winterbotham. “Our freshmen haven’t seen this type of intensity, but it’s a good learning experience for both of them.” In doubles Friday night, No. 8 seed Marcos Digliodo/Chad Tsuda defeated number nine seed, Lew DeLeon and Christian Schram of Northern Arizona 8-3 in the quarterfinals. In the semis, the CU will take on Richard Dasek and Erik Nyman of BYU scheduled for Saturday afternoon. “Chad is playing great doubles. Marcos and Chad are jelling into a good team with lots of energy,” Winterbotham said. CU’s other doubles team of Marko Bundalo/Marek Dvorak wasn’t as fortunate falling to Roeland Brateanu and Miron Mann of Utah, 8-4 in the Round of 16. In the consolation bracket, freshman Marcos Digliodo won a pair of matches to reach the third round. Digliodo defeated Viktor Zetterholm of Denver, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 and Jonah Nelson of Utah State, 7-5, 6-0.
