Colorado University Athletics
Game Notes
ATTENDANCE: Tonight's sellout crowd (first of the season) of 54,215 is a Folsom Field record, breaking the old mark of 54,063 set against Nebraska on Oct. 28, 1995.
HALFTIME: The only
other team within No. 1 Oklahoma at halftime this year was Alabama
in game two, when the Sooners led in Tuscaloosa, 13-3.
AND BY THE WAY. The press box meal fundraiser for
the Journalism School raised $450; those who contributed, thank
you; those who didn't, well, couldn't you have paid just once for a
press meal for a good cause?!
This loss snaps a nine-game home conference game winning streak for
the Buffaloes (last loss: 35-27 to Iowa State on Nov. 11,
2000).
All Black Unis. Colorado is now 13-9-1 when
it dons all black uniforms (though tonight was the first time with
black socks). CU is 0-3-1 against OU when wearing all black;
CU's dropped two in a row in the get-up, tonight and last year's
Big 12 title game-to Oklahoma.
POST-CATCH & CONTACT. Press box figures
indicate that Oklahoma had exactly half, 124 of 248, of its passing
yards after the catch (Colorado had 71), with the Sooners netting
108 of their 186 rushing yards after the first hit (CU had 44 of
its 40, but the latter number includes 36 yards lost to
sacks).
FIRST DOWN CONTAINMENT. Oklahoma had put up
some incredible numbers on first down, but with one exception, CU's
defense did a decent job of holding OU in check. The Sooners
had a net 19 yards passing on 10 attempts (no sacks), and ran 30
first down plays overall for 132 yards, 4.4 per (38 came on one
Renaldo Works run). Colorado gained 110 yards on 24 first
downs plays, 4.6 per try.
PLUS TERRITORY. The CU defense also made the
Sooners work to get their yards in plus territory (the CU side of
the 50): OU ran 37 plays for 165 yards (4.4 per), and the Buffs
forced a pair of fumbles, one in the red zone. Colorado ran 24
plays in plus territory for 155 yards on four drives into the
Sooner side of the 50(6.5 per, 3 TDs, one fumble).
In the decisive third quarter, Oklahoma outscored CU 10-0,
outgained CU 155-16, ran 24 plays to CU's five, and possessed the
ball for 11:22 in the period.
WR D.J. Hackett. He caught seven balls for
64 yards tonight, upping his season numbers to 55 for 683; the 55
receptions the fourth most in a single season at CU; the 683 yards
are 11th most. because WR Derek McCoy (7-43 tonight) has 49 for
721, the 10th most catches and the eighth most yards
respectively.
Ouch. Tonight marked the sixth time in eight
games this year CU played a team that is currently averaging 412 or
more yards per game. OU gained 434 this evening.
OU scored "only" 34 points, ending a run of five consecutive games
Cu had allowed into the 40s, which had tied the school mark in such
instances.
After forcing just one turnover in the previous 16 quarters coming
in, the Buffs forced three this evening, matching their season best
(CU had three against Colorado State).
Colorado Injuries: CB Phil Jackson, wrist
(probable for Texas Tech); OT Sam Wilder, quadricep (probable); DT
DeAndre Fluellen, clavicle (day-to-day); CB Vance Washington,
hamstring (probable).
QB Joel Klatt. He completed 24-of-33 passes
for 187 yards and three touchdowns. his 72.7 completion percentage
is the fifth best in school history in a game where a QB attempted
30 or more passes. His 12 TD passes on the season now tie for
the sixth most in a single year at Colorado.
