MEN?S TENNIS TRAVELS TO INDOOR REGIONAL
BOISE, Idaho ? With a strong showing at the 2003 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region Championships last month, the Colorado men’s tennis team hopes to keep its momentum at Saturday’s ITA Regional Team Playoff hosted by Boise State University.
“We accomplished one of our goals,” said CU head coach Sam Winterbotham. “We qualified as one of the top four teams in the regional. As young as we are, it was good to meet one of our goals. Now we’ll be motivated to knock off these teams in the dual format.”
CU, seeded No. 4 will be matched up with the host and top seed Boise State on Sat., Nov. 15 at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center beginning at 9 a.m.
BYU (No. 2 seed) will play New Mexico (No. 3 seed) at noon in the other semi-final. The championship match will then begin at 5:30 p.m. that same day.
The winner of the tournament will earn a berth into the ITA Indoor Team Championship in February at the University of Washington. There are 16 regions in NCAA men’s tennis, with 16 teams representing each of those regions participating at the Indoor Nationals Indoors.
The Buffaloes 2003 fall team is comprised of four freshmen, three sophomores and one junior. They are Peter Bjork (Huddinge, Sweden), Marko Bundalo (Pancevo, Yugoslavia), Marcos Digliodo (Cordoba, Argentina), Evan Dixon (Eugene, Ore.), Marek Dvorak (Prague, Czech Republic), Elliot Quibell (Surrey, England), Justin Rofel (Baltimore, Md.) and Chad Tsuda (Boulder, Colo.).
Saturday, Nov. 15 Schedule:
9:00 a.m. - Boise State vs. Colorado
Noon - BYU vs. New Mexico
5:30 p.m. - Mountain Region Championship Match
