FOUR BUFFS NAMED TO VOLLEYBALL ACADEMIC ALL-BIG 12 TEAM

BOULDER ? Four University of Colorado student-athletes have been named to the 2003 Volleyball Academic All-Big 12 team.
Senior Monique Gerlach, Junior Allison Barnes and sophomore Nicole Carr earned first-team honors while senior Monica Vesanovic was selected to the second team.
Gerlach, a middle blocker from Monarch Beach, Calif., is a three-time member of the Volleyball Academic All-Big 12 team. A double major in advertising and psychology, Gerlach ranks among CU’s top 10 all-time in kills, blocks, attacks and hitting percentage. She was a 2002 All-Big 12 and AVCA All-Central Region pick.
Barnes, a setter from Arlington, Texas, makes her second straight appearance on the Academic All-Big 12 squad. Majoring in finance at CU, Barnes tops the Buffs and is sixth in the Big 12 in assists per game (11.1 apg).
As a sophomore, Carr makes the team in her first year of eligibility. An outside hitter from Wauwatosa, Wis., Carr ranks fourth in the Big 12 in digs (3.57 dpg) and is third on the team in overall kills with 270. She is majoring in business administration at CU.
Vesanovic, a 2002 first team Academic All-Big 12 pick, is a four-year letterwinner for the Buffs as a defensive specialist. A management major from Los Altos, Calif., Vesanovic has played in 77 of 93 games in 2003 with 41 digs and 16 service aces.
