SENIOR MOORER WINS BUFFALO HEART AWARD

BOULDER ? Following the University of Colorado’s game with Nebraska Friday afternoon, senior safety Medford Moorer was the recipient of the 2003 Buffalo Heart Award, an honor bestowed upon the CU player who has displayed the most heart, determination, desire and grit throughout his career.
Moorer, who is the sixth Buff to earn the relatively new award, follows in the likes of Tyler Brayton (2002), Cortlen Johnson (2001), Eric McCready (2000), Mike Moschetti (1999) and Darin Chiaverini (1998). Presented by fans who sit behind the Colorado bench in section 119, Moorer will leave with the prestigious accolade that was created by “the best fans in the world,” as the plaque notes.
“Today was a very tough loss for us,” Moorer said after the tight contest in which Nebraska came out on top 31-22. “This was not the way I wanted to end my career, but I must say that receiving this award is quite an honor.
“I have been very fortunate here at Colorado during my career,” the team captain added. “I thank everybody who has supported me and believed in this senior squad throughout the years.”
To determine the winner of the award, a voting booth was set up outside the stadium before and after the Missouri game in an effort to encourage any fan to vote for a deserving player. Rather than basing the contest on popularity, the founders believe that the winner must exhibit heart, determination, desire and grit ? all traits a truly great football player possess.
