Buffs Beat Roadrunners in First Exhibition
The Colorado women's basketball team posted a 102-63 victory over the Metro State Roadrunners in the first exhibition game for both teams. Colorado forward Veronica Johns-Richardson led all scorers with 22 points, while Randie Wirt turned in a 21-point performance. Below are excerpts from the post-game press conference.
Colorado Head Coach
GENERAL: “Everybody got in and we got the tempo up like we wanted. And we also got some easy buckets like we wanted. But we put them at the free throw line too many times. We were aggressive and we need to keep that up.”
ON TEMPO: “We forced a lot of turnovers and we need to keep doing that and get on the boards. Bigger teams will make it harder to do that so we need to keep that up.”
ON THE YOUNG PLAYERS: “They all contributed in their own way.
ON AMBER METOYER: “Amber missed a couple of team functions, but she is ready to go and she will be dressed on Friday.”
ON ANNA NEDO
ON CECILY JONES: “She has a partially torn ACL. If she wants to continue playing this season, she won’t have surgery on it because it was the knee that was already prepared. But we will have a doctor’s update on it later tonight.”
ON MELISSA
ON TERA BJORKLUND’s FOULS: “She is going to have to be a lot smarter on her fouls. The game was called tight and there were lots of free throws. Games are going to be called tight this year so we are going to have to adjust to how the referees are calling.”

ON FIRST GAME JITTERS: “I was nervous before. It definitely feels good with one under my belt.”
Just getting into the game helps. Once you get in there, that is all you are thinking about. The team helped too and they definitely calmed me down.”

GENERAL: “We ran the ball well, it was great. Everybody was looking, the guards were hitting us but we need to work on defense more.”
