March 11, 2003
BOULDER- Sophomore men's basketball player David Harrison earns athlete of the week honors after a pair of outstanding games for Colorado last week. Harrison helped lead the Buffs to two crucial Big 12 Conference wins over Oklahoma State and Nebraska this past week.
Harrison pulled off his second career triple-double of the season with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 11 blocked shots vs. Nebraska. His 11 blocked shots is a school record breaking his previous 10 blocks set earlier in the season against Stetson (Nov. 24). Against Oklahoma State, Harrison recorded a double-double of 14 points, 16 rebounds. His 16 rebounds were the most for the 7-0 center since the third game of the season.
So far in 2002-03, Harrison has recorded nine double-doubles with two triple-doubles, and has increased his own school-record of 90 blocks this season. Harrison also has 11 games with over 10+ rebounds and for the season 10 games with over four blocked shots in a game. He is averaging 13.8 points (2nd on team), 8.5 rebounds (second) and 3.1 blocks per game (first) for Colorado.
Harrison was also named to the All-District (8) team, as selected by the United States Basketball Writers Association, the first Buffalo to be honored on the squad in six seasons. Others nominated for this week's award were Tera Bjorklund (women's basketball) and Mia Cullman (women's skiing).
