BOULDER - After canceling its Wednesday practice due to the harsh winter snowstorm, the University of Colorado football team returned to action Friday afternoon and conducted a short scrimmage to cap off the day's work.

Being the last session CU will hold before dispersing for the university's spring break, the Buffs scrimmaged live for a solid 30 minutes towards the end of practice. Though head coach Gary Barnett saw some typical early mistakes and confusion, he left the field feeling fairly satisfied with his team's production.

"It was the first scrimmage," Barnett stated. "Guys were going the wrong way (at times), but for the most part everything was fine. It was a good day."

Admitting that the defense is usually ahead of the offense this early in the season, Barnett was especially happy to see his quarterbacks play well. Battling for a chance to land the starting job come fall, sophomore Joel Klatt and redshirt freshman James Cox continued to impress.

"I was really impressed with Cox today," Barnett added after practice. "I really liked the way he ran the club. Klatt looked good, too. We got some good work in there.

"The defense is always so much further along at this point," he continued. "This is especially true when you are trying to develop a new offensive line. We are going to be very patient with them."

The Buffs will now take the next week off before returning to work on Wednesday, April 4. Barnett also announced that CU would tentatively reschedule its cancelled practice for the Friday (April 18) before the annual Spring Game. It is also possible that the practice be completed on a Sunday.
