Bjorklund First Team All-Big 12
March 7, 2003
BOULDER - Tera Bjorklund, junior center on the University of Colorado women's basketball team was named First Team All-Big 12 on Friday in a vote of the league's coaches. Bjorklund is CU's first-ever First Team All-Big 12 pick. Linda Lappe and Sabrina Scott were named Honorable Mention.
This marks the first postseason honor for Bjorklund, Colorado's leading scorer at 17.0 points per game through the regular season. She has scored in double-figures in 24 of CU's 27 games this season, and has 11 20-plus scoring efforts on the year, including the last four games in a row.
Lappe, a fifth-year senior, earned Honorable Mention for the second time in her career after earning the same distinction as a freshman in 1998-99. This marks Sabrina Scott's first career mention on the All-Big 12 postseason honor roll. All three student-athletes were named to the First Team Academic-All Big 12 squad on March 3.
While this marks CU's first-ever first team selection in the Big 12 Conference, Colorado had several first team All-Big Eight picks. Buff first-teamers included Bridget Turner, Debbie Johnson, Shelley Sheetz, Mindy Henry, Jamillah Lang, Isabelle Fijalkowski and Erin Scholz. CU's previous highest individual honor in the Big 12 conference was second team, which was earned by Erin Scholz and Raegan Scott in 1997 and Mandy Nightingale in 2002.
Colorado's team finished fourth in the Big 12 during the regular season, but placed a league-high three players on the conference honor list out of 25 players. Kansas State had three first team selections in Nicole Ohlde, Kendra Wecker and Megan Mahoney.
The Buffaloes, 21-6 on the season, are in action again in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament next Wednesday, March 12. They will face the winner of the No. 5 Oklahoma vs. No. 12 Nebraska game at 1:30 p.m. MST at Reunion Arena in Dallas. The game will be telecast on Fox Sports Net and KKZN 760 AM.
