No. 45 CU Blanks Cyclones, 7-0

BOULDER - The 45th ranked University of Colorado women's tennis team won their first Big 12 Conference match of the spring season defeating Iowa State, 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the Ranch Country Club.

Colorado improved to 7-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while the Cyclones remained winless at 0-7 overall and 0-6 in the Big 12. CU has won the last 19 of 20 matches against Iowa State and leads the all-time series, 21-2 dating back to 1981.

The Buffaloes started the day sweeping the doubles portion with decisive wins at No. 1 through No. 3 with Lia Dimingo and Dominique Lemperle taking the No. 1 slot, 8-3; followed by Kendra Strandemo and Morgan Sall at No. 2, 8-6; and at No. 3 Sarah Burrows and Jessica Vanderdys taking an 8-5 decision.

In singles, CU had little trouble with the Cyclones sweeping all its matches in straight sets. Lemperle cruised at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-0; Dimingo was equally impressive at No. 2 taking a 6-3, 6-0; and at No. 3 Katherine Anne Lutgert won 6-1, 6-2.

Strandemo won her sixth straight match and remained unbeaten at No. 4 singles (6-0), taking a 6-1, 6-1 win; Vanderdys was a 6-1, 7-5 winner at No. 5; and at No. 6 Morgan Sall was victorious 6-0, 6-4.

Sall, Strandemo and Lemperle also won their 15th match of the season.

"We stayed focused and did what we had to do," said CU head coach Nicole Kenneally. "It was a well-rounded effort by the whole team and we capitalized on our chances."

Colorado takes to the road for its next seven matches beginning with a conference date with Texas Tech next Saturday, March 15.
