No. 75 OU Nets 4-3 Victory Over CU

BOULDER - The Colorado men's tennis team held a 3-2 lead in the latter stages of the match, however the No. 75 Oklahoma Sooners rallied to take the No. 5 and No. 6 singles position in three sets rallying for a 4-3 victory, Saturday afternoon in men's tennis play at the Millennium Hotel.
The match originally scheduled outside at CU's Kittredge Courts was moved indoors due to inclement weather conditions.
With CU (6-14, 1-5 Big 12) trailing 1-0 after losing the doubles point, the home team stormed back with three straight singles wins at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 positions. Justin Hunter took a straight-set win at No. 2, 6-4, 7-6(9) over Chris Mitchell; Marko Bundalo claimed an easy 6-2, 6-1 winner over Matt Ogle at No. 3; and No. 4 Bucky Mink was a three-set winner over Silviu Tanasoiu 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
The Sooners, ranked No. 75 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, narrowed its deficit to 3-2 taking the top singles position in straights sets. The match became even at three when OU's Tommy Garrison extended the No. 6 slot to three sets taking an exciting 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(8) win over Jon Magnes; and at the No. 5 singles position, OU (14-9, 1-6) clinched the team victory when Matt Long rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the third set to defeat CU's Chad Tsuda, 7-6(4), 5-7, 7-6(4).
"We competed tremendously well and I give Oklahoma a great deal of credit too," said CU head coach Sam Winterbotham. "They came out here from the first to the last point of the match and they were into it. (Oklahoma head coach) Paul (Lockwood) has done a great job to get them focused and ready to compete. The atmosphere was awesome; the 4-3 matches that we won, we won the doubles point, but it's hard to win four singles matches no matter who you are playing and how good you are. We have six people out there and it's hard to win four."
CU closes out its regular season on Sunday, April 20 against No. 34 Oklahoma State at 11 a.m. The match is scheduled at the Kittredge Tennis Courts beginning at 11 a.m., however if rain permits, the match will be moved to the Ranch Country Club Courts in Westminster beginning at 6 p.m.
