Abuan, Negriff Win Titles

Ft. Collins, Colo. - The University of Colorado track & field team took its squad to the Jack Christensen Invitational here Saturday. Freshman Chris Abuan was the lone CU mens's champion on the day, taking first in the men's 400 meter dash, while Liza Negriff won the women's triple jump.

Abuan won the men's 400 meter dash in a time of 48.01, his collegiate personal best. Travis Macy was second in the men's 10,000 meter run in a time of 34:34.24, while Chase Mullen took the other men's runner up spot in the hammer throw with his heave of 192-03.

Colorado's 4x100 meter dash relay squad posted its best time of the year, taking second in 41.72. The previous high was 42.21 at the Jim Click Invitational on March 29. Andy Miller also improved his standing on the Big 12 lists, leaping 6-10 in the high jump, improving his season best from 6-8.75.

On the women's side, Liza Negriff won the women's triple jump with her stretch for 39-9.75, her best jump of the season by almost a meter. It is also the second best jump in school history, trailing only the school record of 40-2, set by Udie Ekiko.

Deneeka Torrey ran a season best 14.11 in the women's 100 meter hurdles, good for second place on the day. She was also sixth in the 400 meter hurdles in 65.69. Shannon Yessak took second in the women's 800 meter run in 2:23.72, a three-second improvement over her season best of 2:26.95 here one week ago.

Next week the Buffs will take to the track on May 1 in their lone home meet of the season, the CU Twilight, at Potts Field.
