DALLAS -- For the second time this season, Colorado women's basketball freshman Emily Waner was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week, this time for the period of Jan. 12-18. the conference office announced Monday.
Waner, a 5-8 freshman guard, came off the bench to contribute in both CU victories last week. In Lawrence she hit three three-pointers in the second half to help Colorado to a 15-point lead and helped hold off the Jayhawks for a 59-49 Buffalo win. She had a team-high 12 points, three assists, a steal and a blocked shot in 34 minutes, her most since Nov. 29. Against Missouri, the Highlands Ranch, Colo., native went 3-of-3 from the three-point line in the first half for nine points, to go along with three steals and four assists. On the week she averaged 10.5 ppg, 3.5 apg and shot 58.3% from three point land.
Waner and the No. 14 Buffaloes return to action this Wednesday, Feb. 21 when they take on Texas A&M University at 7 p.m. at the Coors Events Conference Center in Boulder.
